Accidentally a Hit
added by newsBotCBS has ordered five more episodes of Jenna Elfman's CBS sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, which has improved upon retaining the ratings from its lead-in How I Met Your Mother. Depending on where your preferences are, Accidentally on Purpose ranges in quality between two of its cinematic predecessors, the oops-a-baby Knocked Up and the oops-a-baby-with-my-gay-friend-in-a-horrible-movie The Next Best Thing. Luckily, Elfman's series seems to be veering closer to the former. [THR] »

Alyson Hannigan shows off her Halloween handiwork, carrying daughter Satyana, 7 months, in her own little pouch while out with husband Alexis Denisof on Saturday in Santa Monica, Calif.

CBS High Fives Jenna Elfman's Sitcom
added by newsBotBy Josef Adalian
CBS is showing a little love to "Accidentally on Purpose."
The network has ordered five more episodes of the Jenna Elfman half-hour, insiders confirmed Tuesday. That's short of a full-season pickup but still a modest vote of confidence in the series.
Critics were mixed in their reviews of "Aop," but viewership has been steady. It's been retaining between 80-90 percent of its "How I Met Your Mother" lead-in. Last night, it delivered its best ratings since its premiere (though a CBS affiliate carried Monday Night Football, potentially skewing ... »

Review: How I Met Your Mother - Bagpipes
added by newsBot(S05E06) The thing that always amazes me about this show is that how Old Ted is perfectly content to tell his kids about all the tawdry things he or Barney did back in those heady days of the mid-to-late-'00s, but every so often he realizes who he's talking to and substitutes a clean term for a dirty term. I'd imagine this inconsistency is done on purpose by Bays/Thomas and their writers; why have Old Ted pull back on his stories unless there's a laugh to be had?
This is how we got the references to "sandwiches," for instance. And this is how we got the running joke about bagpipes tonight. I liked how it was just a joke in the background and didn't really reference any major story. The major stories, though, were both pretty funny this week.

How I Met Your Mother Review: "Bagpipes"
added by newsBotWhile this week's episode of How I Met Your Mother had Ted as merely a supporting character with absolutely no mother storyline, it was still classic Himym to us.
Why? Because the episode used so many of the classic Bays and Thomas storytelling devices:
Reminiscent of the sandwiches, Future Ted called the upstairs neighbors having loud sex, bagpiping. We hope they make a clever reference to this in a future episode The clever Marshall and Lily fight sequence where copies of the couple fighting around the room appeared. Felt very Himym to us. The entire sequence in which Barney explained how he would have handled Lily was nothing short of amazing. Marshall then attempting to re-enact it? Ever more amazing.
You can catch up on the full events with our "Bagpipes" recap, but trust us, you need to watch this episode. Who cares if there was no mother or overall plotline development, »

Dressed as a pink rabbit, Satyana Denisof hits the pumpkin patch with mom Alyson Hannigan on Friday in Los Angeles.
The How I Met Your Mother actress, 35, recently told Ellen DeGeneres that the baby bunny costume was one of three she’d be wearing for the holiday.
Calling herself a “sucker for Halloween,” Alyson said she’d chosen multiple costumes for her 7-month-old daughter because “there’s other days of the week!”

9 College Courses Based On Popular TV Shows
added by newsBotOne of the most important college goals is to craft the perfect schedule -- a delicate balance between ballbusting Organic Chemistry labs and the 90-minute nap found in any course containing "Postmodern," "Literary" or "Criticism" in its title. From the lowliest junior college to the corridors of the Ivy League, course selection can make or break a semester. With its endowment in a freefall, Harvard has decided to throw a Hail Mary in that direction by offering a new Sociology course with HBO's The Wire as its central text. For all the students wait-listed by the big H or without the proper familial connections to get over the Longfellow Bridge, you can feel content knowing that students in Cambridge are doing exactly what you do every Saturday: Rolling up a gram of mid-grade, watching David Simon's magnum opus and eventually making a Taco Bell run. Only those Crimson losers have to take notes. »

[TV] Get an Ivy League Education on "The Wire"
added by newsBotAt a panel last Thursday night, Harvard professors were joined by the stars of HBO's cop drama The Wire in announcing the plan to introduce the milestone TV show as credited course next year at the Ivy League school, Harvard's paper The Crimson wrote.
A class on The Wire is not an all-new idea, as several other colleges will tell you, but they're usually writing/media classes. Harvard's The Wire course will be taught by William J. Wilson, a professor in sociology and African-American studies, who will use the series as a case study for poverty in America.
The goal of the meet was to discuss the show's potency in revealing the urban problems plaguing today's inner-city lives. During the sold-out panel, Wilson, a big fan of the show, gave it high praise:
The Wire has done more to enhance our understanding of the systemic urban inequality that constrains the »

Matrix Producer to Tell the Story of Muhammad
added by newsBotProducer Barrie Osborne might be asking for trouble with this one. As anyone who watches Family Guy knows, visual depictions of the prophet Muhammad, the founder of the religion of Islam, are prohibited. This isn't explicitly stated in the Qur'an, there are a few traditions of Islam that forbid him from being depicted in a manner other than oral or written descriptions. Despite all of this, Osborne, who produced both The Matrix and the Lord of the Rings trilogies, is setting off on a quest to bring the story of Muhammad to the big screen. Budgeted at around $150m , the film will chart Muhammad's life and examine his teachings. Osborne told Reuters (via Guardian UK) that he envisages it as "an international epic production aimed at bridging cultures. The film will educate people about the true meaning of Islam." Osborne's production will reportedly feature English-speaking Muslim actors, and is backed by the Qatar-based production company Alnoor Holdings »

Fox Hosts ‘Simpsons Scavenger Hunt’
added by newsBotFar-gone are the days when networks held enough power and importance to have TV crossovers and intermixing story lines, much like the days when George Reeves would pop up on I Love Lucy or story lines interweave between Buffy and Angel. Fox seems to be the only network with interest in doing such stunts, as Family Guy’s Stewie popped up on an episode of Bones.
Well, it looks like Fox is doing it once again with an announcement for a Simpsons on-air scavenger hunt in celebrating 20 years of broadcasting TV’s favorite animated family. In a press release, the network announces that it will start on November 9th, and go for an entire week.
Fox is paying “homage” to 20 years of television’s favorite yellow family with the network’s first-ever on-air scavenger hunt. Beginning Monday, Nov. 9 and continuing through Friday, Nov. 13, fans can watch Fox each night to find Simpsons shout-outs, »
