Who We’re Watching - 03/16/09
added by newsBotGood Monday, I hope everyone had a great weekend. For those of you, like me, that celebrated St. Patty’s Day early instead of on a weekday tomorrow, hopefully the hangover has worn off. Anything interesting happen? My pub crawl was wicked strange. There was college basketball, a bulldog tied to a street sign and one of the best glasses of Jameson I’ve had in years. Anyway, back to the grind, yes? As always, shoot me an email at parker@ugo.com if you’ve got something worth sharing. So, the SciFi Channel is changing it’s name… to Syfy. Really. According to SciFi Wire (I wonder if they’ll change the URL too), the new phonetically simillar station will have the tagline, “Imagine Greater.” “Imagine Greater” will become the new brand message and tagline, inviting both consumers and advertisers into a new era of unlimited imagination, exceptional experiences and greater entertainment.

Review: 'Galaxy Quest' 10th Anniversary DVD
added by newsBotGalaxy Quest does not turn 10 until Christmas, but with all the Star Trek hoopla this month, Paramount Home Video wisely releases the 10th anniversary edition on Tuesday.
This love letter to Star Trek and its fans was the commercially successful and satisfying in joke-filled story of the actors from a cancelled science fiction classic being recruited by interstellar fans in their time of greatest need. Can actors rise to the role of hero? Well, we pretty much know how this will end, but still, getting there is great fun.
Opening with a science fiction convention that is remarkably true in feel, the movie shows us how trapped the performers feel in these roles, along with the petty squabbles that have plagued them for years. Tim Allen plays William Shatner, or that is, the Shatner who felt trapped by Captain Kirk before letting himself in on the joke and embracing it.

Galaxy Quest – 10-Year Deluxe Edition – DVD
added by newsBotDVD Review
Galaxy Quest
Directed by: Dean Parisot
Cast: Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell
Running Time: 1 hr. 41 mins.
Rating: PG
Release Date: May 12, 2009
Plot: “Galaxy Quest” is pretty much the TV show “Star Trek.” Got it? Well, many years after the “Galaxy Quest” TV show, the frustrated actors are stuck doing sci-fi conventions. Suddenly, an interstellar race mistakes the show for “historical documents” and takes the actors to space to save the day.
Who’s It For? Trekkers should appreciate this film, because even though at first it looks like it’s just making fun, it’s embracing the fandom. And this is a nice family movie to give your kids a taste of sci-fi comedy.
Movie: I got to be honest … I think I had seen this entire movie once in the last decade. But I had seen parts of Galaxy Quest probably 50 times.
