Meryl Streep's first act was the Liberated Lady. The second was The Chameleon in which Meryl was always the lead, always had new hair, voice and body language and basically controlled Oscar's Universe. It was as if there was only 4 spots for Best Actress, one reserved for her in perpetuity. This second act ended with her intense immersion into notorious dingo-hating Lindy Chamberlain in A Cry in the Dark. [Editor's Note: Yes, I'll do a top ten performance list when "Streep at 60" wraps in mid July. I've heard your requests and I've been rewatching all the movies.]
Starting in 1989 Act III of Streep's career began but we'll get to that shortly. First, let's look at her competition in the last two years of her legendary Act II.

Amanda Seyfried and Gael Garcia Bernal Join Letters to Juliet
added by newsBotAccording to Variety, Summit Entertainment has tapped Amanda Seyfried, Vanessa Redgrave, Gael Garcia Bernal and Franco Nero to star in Letters to Juliet.
The film will be directed by Gary Winick and starts shooting on June 25 in Italy. It is based on a novel by Lise and Ceil Friedman "about the letters written by the lovelorn to star-crossed lover Juliet Capulet."
The film will follow a couple (Seyfried, Garcia) who venture to Italy and get a note meant for Juliet written by a woman (Redgrave), who is searching for a young man that romanced her during a vacation in the country long ago.
The script was written by Jose Rivera and Tim Sullivan. Producing the project are Mark Canton, Ellen Barkin and Caroline Kaplan.

Roadside Attractions Nabs Happy Tears

The film stars Parker Posey, Demi Moore, Ellen Barkin and Rip Torn.
"These are two larger-than-life performances from Parker Posey and Demi Moore as sisters who have a love-hate relationship," stated Roadside company president Howard Cohen.
Lichtenstein went on to say, "This is a tough time for independent film, and I believe that the team at Roadside Attractions knows how to find an enthusiastic audience for this funny, offbeat movie."

Chace Crawford To Star In 'Footloose'

After all the rumors, speculation and backpedaling, there is now official word that "Gossip Girl" star Chace Crawford will replace Zac Efron in the "Footloose" remake.
Paramount Pictures announced that Crawford would reprise the role of Ren McCormack, a rebellious high school student who loves to dance, People reports. The role was made famous by Kevin Bacon in the 1984 original.
After Efron dropped out of the film to pursue other roles, Paramount released a statement saying the studio remained committed to the Kenny Ortega-helmed film. Ortega also directed the "High School Musical" movies with Efron.
Back in March, rumors began circulating that Crawford had auditioned for the role. Just a day later those rumors were rebuffed with sources saying that Crawford hadn't auditioned.
