Warning: Pirating Movies Will Turn You Into Tim Allen
added by newsBotRecently, I bought a ticket to a movie that wound up costing me the most tedious 96 minutes of my life in recent memory. Those are the breaks when you review movies for a living - sometimes it's a crap shoot, and sometimes it's just plain crap. But while the ins and outs of Tim Allen's latest old man vanity project are neither here nor there, and I thought/hoped I'd never give Crazy on the Outside another waking thought after that day, one peculiar plot point came up again as I read this New York Times piece on the poor, Internet-happy schlub who got busted for posting a work print of Wolverine online. This man, this Gilberto Sanchez from the Bronx, is in danger of turning into Tim Allen.
Let me explain: In his directorial debut, Tim Allen leads Sigourney Weaver, Ray Liotta, and J.K. Simmons in the story »

'Spider-Man' Star Tobey Maguire's Next Move: Indie Or Hobbit?
added by newsBotThe actor could go for more Oscar-baiting roles or a brand-new franchise.

After he's hung up those web shooters and says goodbye to his role as Peter Parker, following the news that "Spider-Man 4" has been scrapped, what's next for Tobey Maguire? Will he reach out for another franchise, or will he go after more serious, Oscar-hungry roles akin to his recent acclaimed (and Golden Globe-nominated) stint in the drama "Brothers"?
The 34-year-old actor may now be wondering if he should make those "Hobbit" rumors come true. Maguire has long been said to be a contender for the role of young Bilbo Baggins in the Peter Jackson-produced, Guillermo del Toro-directed "Lord of the Rings" prequels, but he has continually denied involvement. Actually, Maguire told MTV News last month that he'd never met Del Toro and hadn't talked to anybody »

Movie Review: Youth In Revolt
added by newsBotThe Teen film is an unscathed genre – teen angst remains fashionable and entertaining, forsaking originality for zest, because these films know it’s about a journey that is always stylish no matter the generation. Youth in Revolt is heartfelt in embracing the fantasy and ridiculousness of teenhood – resembling cultish 80’s teen films such as Better Off Dead and Real Genius.
Michael Cera is Nick Twisp, a pansy who adores Frank Sinatra, but has grown tired of his virginal existence. The object of his desire comes in the form of Sheeni Saunders (played by newcomer Portia Doubleday), a sweet looker, who loves all things French and whose dream is to someday live in Paris; she believes most people live stunted lives. This propels Nick to want to be a better man. To change his life, Nick creates a supplementary persona known as Francois Dilinger – a devilish sexpot, with black halos in his eyes, »

Review: Youth in Revolt
added by newsBotGoing into Youth in Revolt, I really didn’t have much knowledge about it. I knew that it was based on a book of the same name. I knew that there was a pretty big following and excitement for the movie was growing daily. I knew that the cast bench was deep and they were all well known in their own right. But beyond that, I was in the dark. Sometimes that’s the best way to see a movie I think. As the lights dimmed and the movie started, I settled in wondering how it was all going to turn out.
Michael Cera plays Nick Twisp. An awkward 16 year old who is stuck in a broken dysfunctional home. Estelle, his mom (played by Jean Smart)is unemployed, dependent on the child support checks she collects from Nick’s dad George (Steve Buscemi). Estelle mainly focuses her attention on her »

Youth in Revolt Review
added by newsBotYouth in Revolt Directed by: Miguel Arteta Written by: Gustin Nash (screenplay), C.D. Payne (novel) Starring: Michael Cera, Portia Doubleday, Zach Galifianakis, Steve Buscemi, Fred Willard, Ray Liotta, Jean Smart, Mary Kay Place, Justin Long Ever since his debut as George-Michael on Arrested Development, Michael Cera has been pigeonholed as the shy, soft-spoken nerd, the awkward outcast who has trouble talking to girls. Whether or not you find him cute and endearing, you have to admit that he suits the role quite well, and has managed to turn in some pretty hilarious performances over the past few years. Still, for some reason people are suddenly insisting that he needs to do something different in order to prove his worth (nevermind the fact that most comedic actors simply play the same role over and over again). Perhaps in response to these people, we now have Youth in Revolt, the next phase in Michael Cera's evolution! »

Youth In Revolt Review
added by newsBotShort Version: Not at all what it was advertised to be, Youth In Revolt will leave a lot of people scratching their heads.
Screen Rant’s Kofi Outlaw reviews Youth In Revolt
Youth In Revolt is one of those movies that as soon as the opening credits rolled, I could tell had been totally advertised as something that it’s not – though not without good reason (but more on that later).
The film is based on a series of novels by C.D. Payne, in which Nick Twisp (Michael Cera) a mild-mannered boy of refined tastes, tries to rebel against the trappings of an unrefined upbringing and immoral authority figures in order to be united with his true love, Sheeni Saunders (Portia Doubleday).
Nick is a hapless virgin trapped in a house with a mother (24’s Jean Smart) whose only enjoyment in life seems to be the “attention” she gets from »

The Notable Films of 2010: Part Eleven
added by newsBotOne month, 280 films and 70,000 words later, my guide to the films of 2010 is now complete. I hope you've enjoyed reading it all - it's been utterly exhausting but an ultimately rewarding venture I've been single-handedly pulling together since early December. If you have liked it, my only request is that you help spread the word about it now that it's all done.
If you're a fellow blogger or site owner, please give it a plug on your site. If you're a reader, give it a mention on Facebook, Twitter or other online places you might venture. A lot of effort went into this, the greatest reward so far has been seeing it talked about and hearing your reactions. I'm glad many of you have gotten a lot of use out of the previous pages, so I hope you enjoy this final part:

The Award Season Starts Yet Some Movies Still Flop
added by newsBotWith the 67th annual Golden Globe Awards airing next weekend comes both the first major ceremony for critics to honor Hollywood this decade and “the worst of their careers” for some actors. According to Indiewire.com, one actor who saw his newest movie flop during its first weekend of release was Tim Allen. Crazy on the Outside teamed Allen with his Wild Hogs co-star Ray Liotta, and was released through Freestyle Releasing. The Home Improvement star’s directorial debut earned a dismal $75,450 from the 75 screens it premiered on. Meanwhile, the Weinstein Company, who had previous hits with Clerks II and Inglourious Basterds, unveiled its wide release Youth in Revolt, starring Michael Cera. [...] »

Hannah Montana no more
added by newsBotThe Disney Channel has confirmed that this upcoming fourth season of the popular tween sitcom Hannah Montana will be the last. The final season will have guest-stars such as Ray Liotta and Two and a Half Men's Angus T. Jones.
Gee, what was the first clue that this would be the final season, Disney? Was it Miley Cyrus' increasing star power? Was it her singing career (which is for Disney records so it's not like the relationship is ending)? Was it the fact that she's getting older and before too long won't be able to pass for a high school student anymore? Or is she just fed up with the role?
