Willem Dafoe is going green again – he’s joined the cast of Andrew Stanton’s John Carter Of Mars, playing a green-skinned Martian warrior.However, this is no bad guy repeat for the former Green Goblin – this time around, he’s on the side of the angels; his Tars Tarkas, leader of the multi-limbed Thark, teams up with Taylor Kitsch’s eponymous hero, a Civil War soldier who is mysteriously transported to the Red Planet, and finds himself in the middle of an even bigger conflict.The four-limbed Tars, unique amongst his generally savage people for being able to appreciate the little things in life, like art and love, should provide a heck of a showcase for Dafoe, although it’s not yet known whether the actor will be donning make-up, or a rubber suit, or if he’ll be squeezing into a mo-cap suit.Stanton co-wrote, with Mark Andrews,

John Carter of Mars may be almost eight decades in the making, and production doesn't get started until 2010, but I'm going to be that guy that gets way too hyped up about it way too early on. After all, it's been something fans have twiddled their thumbs impatiently about for far, far too long. At least today it is, for today sees the announcement from io9 that Willem Dafoe will be shrugging off the weirdness of Antichrist for the weirdness of John Carter when he plays Tars Tarkas - the six-limbed, strangely emotional member of the usually-unfeeling Thark race who becomes John Carter's friend. Veteran actor Willem Dafoe is the latest to join the cast of Andrew Stanton's John Carter of Mars movie in development at Disney/Pixar. In the story of a Civil War soldier transported to the red planet where warring races vie for control, Dafoe will play Tars Tarkas, a leader of the Thark race who knows that the only way his people can survive is if they turn away from war, a position that may cost him dearly.
