Drag Me to Hell

Gary Ross has been tapped to rewrite the in-development script for “Spider-Man 4″, which brings him back together with Tobey Maguire, who starred in the Ross-directed “Seabiscuit”. Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios are hoping to put the film into production early next year, which Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead, Drag Me To Hell) will once again direct, based on the characters by Stan Lee (Silver Surfer, Iron Man) and starring Kirsten Dunst (All Good Things) and Tobey Maguire (The Crusaders, Spider-Man 3). The first “Spider-Man 4″ script was originally by James Vanderbilt, and then rewritten by David Lindsay-Abaire before Ross was just announced. Mandate PIctures (Juno, Drag Me To Hell, 30 Days of Night) has picked up the rights to the 2008 novel You Are a Miserable Excuse For a Hero by Onion scribe Bob Powers.Powers' "Just Make a Choice" system is a riff on the Choose Your Own Adventure model (cool British kids preferred Fighting Fantasy, which worked on the same principle). The book's protagonist - ie you - enjoys a successful blind date, following which his potential new squeeze is kidnapped. The book then presents him/you with ongoing opportunities to either attempt to save the day, or to run and hide, fearing that a daring rescue looks like a bit too much of a commitment this early in the relationship.The project was shopped to Mandate by screenwriter Dv DeVincentis, whose credits include High Fidelity and the awesome Grosse Point Blank. We've covered some actual roller derby stuff over at Movie Hotties in the past but now we have some a look at the upcoming theatrical version of roller derby. Whip It, the Fox Searchlight flick which marks the directorial debut of Drew Barrymore, is set for release later this year and USA Today got a first look at some photos from the film.
