Fox Searchlight picks up Betty Anne Waters with Hilary Swank and Sam Rockwell
added by newsBotFox Searchlight has acquired the rights to the Tony Goldwyn (The Last Kiss) directed film Betty Anne Waters, written by Pamela Gray (Music Of The Heart). The film has an all-star cast featuring Hilary Swank (Million Dollar Baby), Sam Rockwell (Moon), Melissa Leo (Everybody’S Fine), Minnie Driver (Good Will Hunting), Juliette Lewis (Whip It), Clea DuVall (Zodiac), and Peter Gallagher (The O.C.). The film will hit theaters sometime this fall.
Waters is based on the true story of a high school dropout and single mother (Swank) who puts herself through law school over two decades, all in the name of justice to help overturn her brother’s (Rockwell) unlawful murder conviction. The film is described as “an exploration of the profound bond between a brother and sister – a love so deep, so unequivocal, so complete that it becomes a force that will not be denied or defeated.”

Weekly Poll Results: Favourite Miramax Film
added by newsBotAs expected, it was another one-sided poll last week with Pulp Fiction clearly standing out head and shoulders above all other top Miramax releases. Tarantino also claimed the #2 spot with Reservoir Dogs, followed by Kevin Smith's Clerks at #3. I had hoped that by wording it as "favourite" Miramax film as opposed to "best", the voting might be a bit closer, but obviously Pulp Fiction is one movie no one has grown tired of. However, it's interesting to note that Chicago and The English Patient were both at the bottom of the poll when, in fact, they are the only films on the list to win Best Picture. Go figure. For a full list of Miramax releases over the years, check out this Wikipedia entry [1]. 1. Pulp Fiction -- 45% 2. Reservoir Dogs -- 11% 3. Clerks -- 9.7% 4. City of God -- 9.1% 5. Good Will Hunting -- 7.2% 5. Amelie -- 7.2% 7. Trainspotting -- 6.8% 8. Swingers -- 2.3% 9. The English Patient -- 0.8% 9. Chicago -- 0.8% [1] http://en. »

When you think of the Sundance Film Festival, one of the last names that might come to mind is Ben Affleck. From 1998 until 2004, he was one of Hollywood's top leading men, cranking out such high-profile blockbusters as "Armageddon," "Daredevil" and "The Sum of All Fears." Now, a half-decade after "Gigli" and "Jersey Girl" closed the book on that chapter of his career, Affleck continues to reinvent himself as a serious-minded actor and filmmaker.
"I've been here a few times," he said when we caught up with him over the weekend, insisting that his indie roots in films like "Good Will Hunting" and "Chasing Amy" are as much a part of his career as »
