Movie Review: Land of the Lost Rocks (Peter Travers Can Suck It!)
added by newsBotIt was a little before the half-way mark to Land of the Lost when a little kid started crying in the theater as the Sleestaks opened their reptilian beaks, revealing row after row of neat, razor-sharp teeth. We hadn’t even reached the scene in which Danny McBride’s misogynist, would-be casino maven, Will Stanton, stared directly into the camera while sitting in a swimming pool, tripping his fucking mind out on “narcotic” alien fruit-juice. The swimming pool was randomly parked on an inter-dimensional white sand desert sprinkled with a Viking ship, a broken-down Cessna, and a meta neon sign that blankly spells “Motel.” And as if exiting from Jeff Goldblum's ear canal during a Jurassic Park hallucination, dinosaurs big and small were roaming the diverse terrain beyond. Land of the Lost is chockful of original, PG-13-hazing moments. And if you’re a parent and bring your kids to see it,

Transformers: Bigger And Longer On Imax
added by newsBotMIchael Bay's been posting on his blog about the progress of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and there was good news in there. First, the film's almost finished. Secondly, the Imax cut is going to have extra robot fighting scenes in a slightly longer cut with full Imax picture. Yes, that sound you hear is action fans fainting with sheer delight. For some reason, we're chiefly reminded here of a scene from Father Ted, wherein all the priests fall asleep after goading each other into watching Latin Mass on TV, and then Father Jack turns the channel just in time to see "Jurassic Park - now with extra dinosaurs". In any case, since the principle delight of Transformers is the sight of gigantic robots whaling on each other, we look forward to seeing this on the big, Big screen with considerable pleasure. Let's hope it's more than just a few frames longer.

'The Hangover' Will Get Oh-So-Close to $200 Million
added by newsBotBecause it's the clear surprise hit of the summer - and may wind up being one of the top ten movies of the year at the box office - we thought we'd look ahead and try to predict how much coin The Hangover will make. We're on track with our $257 million domestic estimate for Star Trek, so we'll use the same approach to see where the finish line is for the comedy of the summer.
One problem with determining how much it will make is how unusual its production has been to this point. Its opening weekend was only the 20th best in the month of June, but after ten days, it's ahead of better than half the films in front of it on that list. And as far as its second weekend drop (27%), it's the best ever for a movie with a $40-million weekend in June, with the exception of Jurassic Park.
