NYC Summer Screenings
added by newsBotIts expensive to see movies here in New York City, or pretty much anywhere these days. I did an about face a couple weeks ago when the price of admission to see Up in 3D was sixteen dollars. I’m sorry, but I just don’t understand the reason behind 3D, and I don’t see why I need to be charged another 4 dollars to see a movie in 3D.
I come from a small town in upstate New York where going to the movies has been, for years, six dollars. Since living in Manhattan, I’ve had to initiate something called “The 12 Dollar Rule,” as in is the movie actually worth 12 dollars? Sure, for movies like Star Trek, The Dark Knight and others, its worth that kind of money. However, there is a solution! During the summer there are all kinds of outdoor screenings of classic movies for free around New York City.

Tenacious D to replace Beastie Boys at Outside Lands
added by newsBotTenacious D -- comprising of superstar comedian Jack Black and Kyle Gass -- will be performing at the Outside Lands music festival in San Francisco on Aug. 30, a headlining slot previously occupied by Beastie Boys. The duo has been largely quiet since the release of the movie and soundtrack to "The Pick of Destiny" in 2006, and a subsequent tour in 2007. Black, of course has been acting in and lending his voice to movies like "Year One," "Kung Fu Panda" and "Tropic Thunder" since then. Tenacious D also released a DVD last year, "The Complete Masterworks 2," chronicling the "Pick...

Seth Rogen Talks Green Hornet & ‘Paul’
added by newsBotOne of the comedy men-of-the-minute, Seth Rogen, is starring in two upcoming movies, both within the “realm of the geek.” One is the much-talked-about adaptation of The Green Hornet, the other is the lesser-known Paul, a new comedy from Simon Pegg and Nick Frost about an alien that’s escaped from Area 51. Recently Rogen has talked about both projects to bring us eager fans up-to-date with what’s going on.

The Green Hornet
As anyone who’s been keeping up on The Green Hornet news knows that Stephen Chow recently left the project. His departure was confirmed after a casting call for Kato, the role he was supposed to be playing, was released by the studio.
Chow’s departure was much to the dismay of people (myself included) who thought the actor was perfectly suited for Green Hornet’s action-comedy mix (see Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle as proof

Hey Hollywood, What About the Rest of My Childhood?
added by newsBotRight now, as I type this Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is nearing one kagillion dollars at the worldwide box office, a total so large it has gone into made up numbers. At this point it’s fairly well documented that I wasn’t a fan of the sequel, so I won’t reiterate how there was no story and most of the critics got it right.
But Transformers got me thinking about how I used to take Soundwave in the tub with me and, while surrounded by bubbles, dive bomb the rubber ducky. Then, after I finished reminiscing about last weekend, I reflected further back to my childhood. Those were the good times before I had responsibilities and other things I procrastinate. However, now that 80’s adaptations are successful in theaters, Hollywood will milk that cash cow dry until we’re all sick of hearing about the toys we

Weekly Poll Results: Best Jack Black Movie
added by newsBotJack Black has always been known for his musical side and rocker persona, so it's appropriate to see The School of Rock and High Fidelity voted up as his two strongest films to date. That said, I'm a bit surprised that Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny was ranked as high as it was, considering that it was pretty poorly received (I still haven't seen it). The remaining titles in the top 5, as voted by the readers of Film Junk, are Tropic Thunder and Be Kind Rewind. Does that sound right to you? By the way, I didn't realize Saving Silverman had quite so many fans. Would it have actually have made the top 5 if it had been included? I wonder... 1. The School of Rock -- 25.6% 2. High Fidelity -- 20.4% 3. Tropic Thunder -- 9.5% 4. Be Kind Rewind -- 8.8% 4. Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny -- 8.8% 6. Kung Fu Panda -- 8.3% 7. Nacho Libre

Ten Things You Never Knew About Jack Black

His latest project, the Harold Ramis-directed Year One is released later this week, and in celebration, we've compiled 10 unusual facts about the rotund Californian funnyman. 1. Jack Black was born on August 28, 1969 in Santa Monica, California to Judith and Thomas Black. His parents were both satellite engineers, with his mother working on the famous Hubble Space Telescope. 2. Black's first taste of fame came at the age of 13, when he was cast in the advert for Atari's Activision Pitfall! game. His second ad campaign was for the slightly less cool Smurfberry

Kung Fu + Animation = Awesomeness
added by newsBotThose who’s been around me or familiar with my previous post would know the two type of films I geek over the most is Kung Fu and animation. Put the two together and I’ll become giddy like a kid on Christmas morning so you can imagine my joy when animator Mike Rodriguez who share my taste in films has given me the heads up of his CG short film/demo reel that contains exactly just that. The project took him a little less than four months to complete himself, from concept to final product except for the music and the sound samples. If any of the folks at Dreamworks Animation is reading this, you might wanna hire this guy for the Kung Fu Panda sequel. As Po would say, its awesomeness.
You’ll find the minute long short film embedded below after the break. Also check out his
