Year One Review – Philip’s Take
added by newsBotYear One wants it’s audience to believe it’s Agent Sands at the end of Once Upon A Time In Mexico. The film blindly fires it’s comedy at us, hoping things will hit us and evoke mountains of laughter. Why shouldn’t it? It’s directed by Harold “Egon” Ramis who’s done some decent comedy directing and is responsible for Ghostbusters and Caddyshack. The movie’s headlined by timid nerd Michael Cera, whom everyone adores, and Jack Black, who can be great when he wants to be. The talent is certainly there to make a fun, if useless, summer comedy. Yet like the aforementioned Sands, Year One misses just about every shot of comedy it unleashes.
Year One is terribly constructed together to the point where Ramis should feel ashamed he took part in it. Scenes start, climax, and then cut to the next scene without finishing

Boo on DreamWorks
added by newsBotWhile the ratio of DreamWorks to Pixar movies that I have loved is certainly skewed a little more towards the latter, I'm not some rabid Pixar fanboy who hates on DreamWorks. While I was disappointed by Monsters Vs. Aliens, Kung Fu Panda was fantastic. But this latest DreamWorks film in development sounds like a blatant ripoff of another animated film. The studio is prepping Boo U., a film about ghosts who go to school to learn to scare humans. When one of the ghosts begin to question his...

Geek Daily: Quotes From 'Green Lantern', 'Priest', 'We3' and 'Thor'
added by newsBotThe news on anything from the world of comics has been painfully slow, and while I hate reporting non-news, it's such a slow day that I've dug up my old Geek Daily graphic and compiled a bunch of quotes from the pre-production world. Hopefully, there's something to get you talking about in here, even if all you want to do is complain that you still don't know who will play the Emerald Knight, or that you haven't seen a photo of Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow.
First, let's talk The Green Lantern -- or rather, read what Marc Guggenheim told Sci Fi Wire about it. He assures fans that the film is moving forward, and that he's written yet another draft of its screenplay. "You know I really can't [say anything]. I've sworn a blood oath of secrecy in relation to the project. But, you know, the thing I can tell

More Info On We3 Film Adaptation
added by newsBotProducer Don Murphy recently talked to Sci Fi Wire about the long-rumored and highly-anticipated adaptation of the Grant Morrison comic “We3″, which he is attached to. According to Murphy, “We3″ already has both a script and a director, and just needs a studio home. John Stevenson (”Kung Fu Panda”) is attached to direct the live-action/CGI adaptation of “We3″, which focused on three domestic animals, a dog, cat, and rabbit, that have been transformed with implants and robotic suits top become high-tech soldiers. The three then go on the run to avoid being destroyed by their creators after having been deemed unsuitable, and start looking for somewhere to [...]

‘We3’ Producer Says Script And Director Lined Up, Needs A Studio
added by newsBotGrant Morrison might be riding high thanks to his high profile “Batman and Robin” series, but it’s his creator-owned work that gets us most excited when it comes to comic books on film. Today, there’s word on one such project: “We3.”
Don Murphy, one of the producers of the planned adaptation of Morrison’s graphic novel, spoke with Sci Fi Wire about the film. According to the producer, “We3″ is ready with a script and a director — all it needs now is a studio.
“We’re working with a director named John Stevenson,” Murphy said. “Don’t be confused, though. Even though he directed ‘Kung Fu Panda,’ the movie’s going to be live action. It’s going to be a combination CG, puppetry [and] real animals. We have a great script, a great director, and we’re trying to figure out who’s going to pay for it in this marketplace,

'Dark Knight' Poster, Ads Win Eight Key Art Awards
added by newsBotThe Dark Knight picked up eight trophies at The Hollywood Reporter Key Art Awards, which shines a light on posters, trailers, commercials, et al. Essentially, if it was made to promote, market, or advertise a movie, it could be in the running for the Key Arts.
Blt & Associates won Best Theatrical poster, Best TV Spot, and Best Action Print (meaning best print ad for an action movie) for The Dark Knight, and Iron Man won Best Trailer. I wish I knew for sure which Dark Knight Poster took home that prize; my hunch is Why So Serious?, which is one of the most memorable movie posters in a long time, but the film was nominated twice in that category.
Overall, Blt was the big winner Friday night, with 13 Key Art Awards; the company also worked on campaigns for Iron Man, Kung Fu Panda, and Juno, among its many nominees in theatrical and home entertainment categories.

Box-Office Wrap-Up: Jun. 12 - Jun. 14, 2009
added by newsBotThe Hangover got me again, becoming only the third film this year to take multiple box-office weekends. For the record, the other two were Paul Blart and Madea Goes to Jail. #1 movie predicted correctly: 0 Weeks In A Row 1. The Hangover Alert commenter Gophers Attack! had it dialed in, he called it in first place at $32.8m. It only fell 25.7% from last weekend... which is astonishing. It's almost as if people will heartily support good movies. Weird. Oh, and did you know Ed Helms actually had a crown removed for the role as Stu? Seriously, read all about it right here. Result: 33.0 million (My rank: #2, $6.0m off) 2. Up I had the dollars fine, I just expected Hangover to fall another 15%. Up will pass Monsters vs. Aliens domestically this weekend, call it revenge for Kung Fu Panda outearning Wall-e worldwide last summer. Result: 30.5 million (My rank: #1, $.3m off) 3. The Taking of Pelham

Plus1’s “Year One” Review
added by newsBotThe Category is Summer Movies
Answer: “Year One”
The Question: Name the movie that is written and directed by Harold Ramis (of “Ghostbusters” and “Stripes” fame), co-produced by Judd Apatow (of “40 Year-old Virgin” and “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” fame), and stars Jack Black, Michael Cera, Oliver Platt, David Cross, and Hank Azaria.
With talent such as the names I listed above you’d expect “Year One” to be a very funny comedy with non-stop laughs and gut splitting moments. The sad truth is you get a movie that has zero potential, characters we’ve seen before in other movies, and one long running flat joke that never gets any life. I don’t care what other say, I’m going on record as saying that “Year One” is a very lose and poor remake of Mel Brooks 1981 movie entitled “History of the World: Part I”. Where Mel Brooks was able to
