Perhaps we didn't care or thought the idea was just too silly that it couldn't be true but almost a year ago it was announced that Keanu Reeves would be starring in an American take on the story of the 47 Ronin. [Insert picking ourselves up from the floor]
No sooner had we caught our breath then it was announced that the screenplay would be written by Chris Morgan. He wrote such sprawling epics as Cellular, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Wanted and Fast & Furious. But he silenced any doubters in an interview with cultural hot pot MTV, "It's this great, 'Gladiator'-esque, '300'-like big action movie with samurai and ninja," Morgan said. New 'Highlander' Movie on the Way
added by newsBotThere can be only one; it’s been the tagline throughout the 'Highlander' movie and television franchise. Unfortunately, for much of that time, the "one" could have referred to the total number of Highlander films that were actually good.
Now it appears Summit Entertainment has an opportunity to change that. According to Variety, director Justin Lin and producer Neal Moritz have been hired to revitalize the once-popular science-fiction/fantasy property, which concerns sword-wielding immortals battling one another down through the ages.
The original 1986 Highlander, which starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown, and was directed by Russell Mulcahy, was a bigger success in Europe than in the United States. Meanwhile, despite retaining the same director and stars as the first film, the futuristic 1991 sequel Highlander 2: The Quickening is considered among the most incomprehensible movies ever made.

Justin Lin and Neal Moritz Team for Highlander Remake
added by newsBotSummit Entertainment announced today that it has tapped the filmmaking team behind this spring's hit film Fast & Furious - director Justin Lin and producer Neal H. Moritz - to direct and produce respectively the studio's re-imagination of the cult film Highlander. Summit's Highlander is being written by Iron Man screenwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Peter Davis, long time producer of Highlander, will also produce the film. Summit acquired the rights to remake the cult classic from Davis - Panzer Productions, Inc. in May of 2008.
Summit's film will expand on the original Highlander's core mythology of immortals battling amongst us, hunting each other through the ages by tapping its newly minted creative team to take its re-imagination to new heights. Plans call for the re-imagination to spur a new franchise for the studio.
