Early Academy Awards Nomination Reactions In A Twitter-Wood Special Edition
added by newsBotNothing stirs up emotions, name-dropping and unbridled snark in Hollywood quite like the Academy Awards nominations, and each of these behaviors was alive and well this morning as the official Oscar contenders for 2010 went public.
In the first few hours after the nominees were announced Twitter-Wood saw all of these reactions, and I've retweeted a collection below filled with Anna Kendrick's shock after seeing her Best Supporting Actress nomination for "Up in the Air," Lee Unkrich's wishes to the "Up" crew, Samm Levine's assessment of the eight nominations received by "Inglourious Basterds" and more. Check 'em out below in this Twitter-Wood Special Edition.
@AnnaKendrick47 I'd love to say that 140 characters couldn't cover how I'm feeling right now but I'm honestly speechless
-Anna Kendrick, Actress ("Twilight," "Up in the Air")
@ThatKevinSmith So the AcademyAward noms are announced, and once again, I'm sickened. Where the f--- is Orphan? »

Oscar's Snubs: Star Trek, The Hangover, Michael Jackson!
added by newsBotDoes it count as a snub if you never believed that no matter how many Best Picture spots there were, there'd never be enough for your movies? And so it came to pass that despite the Oscars' expanded Best Picture field, and despite Avatar's and District 9's success, Star Trek, The Hangover and Michael Jackson's This Is It were denied shots at the biggest prize. Star Trek was treated like a sci-fi film, earning four technical nods today for the 82nd Academy Awards. The Hangover was treated like a comedy that was unabashedly funny, rating zero nominations. This Is It was treated like a surprise critical hit nobody knew what to do with, its all-or-nothing gambit (the concert film »

Oscar Nominations: The Tragedy Of The Best Original Song Category
added by newsBotThe nominations for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards were announced this morning, and there are already plenty of debates that will be argued all across MTV News properties (especially on the always-sharp MTV Movies Blog) today and every day up until the Oscars are actually handed out on March 7. Will "Avatar" run the table, or will it be spoiled by an upstart like "The Hurt Locker"?
Overall, it seems like a pretty even set of nominations, though there is one category that has everyone here in the MTV Newsroom scratching our heads. That category is, of course, the one for Best Original Song. The nominations run like this: Two Randy Newman songs from "The Princess and the Frog," a tune from "Nine," a song from the French film "Paris 36" and one of the T-Bone Burnett-produced tracks from "Crazy Heart."
To that we say: Huh?
Considering all the great tracks included on the shortlist, »

Oscar nominations: Who got snubbed?
added by newsBotAvatar and The Hurt Locker led the Oscar nominations this morning, with nine nods each. There's a lot to be happy about, like Up's five nominations including both Best Animated Feature and Best Picture. But while we await EW Oscar expert Dave Karger's official analysis, let's talk snubs. Which omission from the list bothers you most? In a 10-movie Best Picture field that had room for box office hits as well as indie darlings, I was surprised Golden Globe winner The Hangover, Star Trek, or (500) Days of Summer didn't sneak in. The Hangover was completely shut out (sorry, Best »
