Who’S It For? It’s not a sports movie. It’s not a football movie. This is a family drama about the difficulties in raising children and helping those less fortunate. Football plays a role eventually, but not as much as everything else.
Expectations: For me, the preview looked like it was a good story about a young man who didn’t fit in, and Bullock threw herself into the mix. It did not look promising, almost like I couldn’t enjoy this without worshiping her new Southern accent. »

Sports movies usually offer a shocking amount of heavy-handed melodrama designed to stir emotional responses from viewers. A lot of them, especially films that play out on the gridiron, are based on true stories, which are then pumped-full of social issues, either race or class, that can be extremely manipulative towards its viewers. While some of this is true in The Blind Side, the latest from director John Lee Hancock (The Rookie, The Alamo), the film excels in where it differs from the norm. Instead of using the true story of Baltimore Ravens left tackle Michael Oher to steal easy tears from the audience (there are many scenes where this could have happened), The Blind Side masterfully takes viewers on a character journey and avoids all of the many, many trappings found in this drama.

Sandra Bullock hasn't had the most consistent track record in recent years. For every Infamous, she's got an All About Steve and The Proposal. It's frustrating, because she has it in her to be an impressive actress.  Thankfully, she did The Blind Side with John Lee Hancock to even out the balance.
This "football is salvation" film opens with an explanation of football with a voiceover by Bullock. It seems like a gimmick, but it actually sets up the story well, and underscores Bullock's portrayal of the real-life woman, Leigh Anne Touhy.  It's a case of the truth being stranger than fiction; few would accept this story if it weren't based on the real-life story of NFL player Michael Oher, as adapted from Michael Lewis's book, The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game.

Sandra Bullock has revealed that she found it odd to shoot her naked scenes in The Proposal. The actress also told Stylist that the movie was not a "romantic comedy" but instead "a motion picture" reminiscent of "films from the '30s and '40s". Variety.com is reporting that Ryan Reynolds (”The Proposal”, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”) and Anna Faris (”Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs”) are attached to Universal Pictures’ “Tmi,” a comedic project about the downside of too much honesty in a romantic relationship. The projest is written by Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and Marc Klein, with Andrew Panay (”Old Dogs”) and Jonathon Komack Martin producing. No director is attached yet to “Tmi”. Ryan Reynolds and Anna Faris have been signed up for the romantic comedy Tmi, a title I hate, but whatever. It might be the easiest title to give a comedy about having too much truth in a relationship, so that's understandable, but on the surface, it's roughly the same as naming a movie Talk to the Hand or (Implied Fist Bump).

Reynolds recently spoofed his romantic comedy transgressions while hosting Saturday Night Live, although he co-starred in the year's biggest romcom, The Proposal, which wasn't as bad as most flicks in the genre.
