The Book of Eli Theatrical Trailer
added by newsBotSimply judging from the looks of this latest trailer for the Hughes Brothers’ The Book of Eli, we might have our hands on the best post-apocalyptic action film since Mel Gibson took the leather gear off in the 90s.
The Book of Eli, starring Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman and Mila Kunis, centers around Washington’s lone hero Eli, who has in his possession what looks like the biblical book of Genesis, on his quest to reform society. Standing in his way is a small town villain in the form of Carnegie (Gary Oldman), who won’t stop until the book is in his possession.
At this point, The Book of Eli has enough stacked in its favor that I’ll be there opening day. I love this genre, and with Oldman in the villain role, you can do no wrong, and Washington is a proven edgy hero. The Hughes Brothers »

He-Man Finds a New Home at Sony
added by newsBotI told you that He Man and the Masters of the Universe would find a new home. Mere weeks after being booted out of Warner Bros, Variety reports that the once and future king of Eternia has found a new home at Sony. As you might remember, Joel Silver and Warner Bros were unable to agree on a direction for He-Man, and Mattel promptly took its toys and went elsewhere.
But if you really dug everything to do with Warner Bros' version (which was reportedly titled Greyskull), you'll have some cause for lament. Sony plans on starting with an entirely clean slate, which means John Stevenson will no longer be directing, and that all the script work by Justin Marks and Evan Daugherty will be scrapped. All of those concepts belong to Warner Bros, not Mattel, who was only able to bring Sony the action figure.

He-Man Settles At Columbia
added by newsBotMasters of the Universe may be settling down at Columbia Pictures according to THR. Just a few weeks after Warner Bros. let their film option slide on the popular Mattel property, Columbia have entered negotiations for the option with Escape Artists attached to produce.
Warners picked up the rights to He-Man, Skeletor and co. in 2007, and put several writers on the project with John Stevenson to direct. Justin Marks put together a treatment back in 2008 which in turn was reviewed positively by several sites, however Mattel and Warner Bros. disagreed over the tone and feel of the movie and the project was stifled.
From the get go, Masters was likely doomed at Warner Bros. With the studio under pressure to deliver quality DC Comics properties to the screen Masters was always going to be an after thought, couple that with Mattel’s distaste for Justin Marks’ brilliant script and the »

He-Man Vs Barbie!
added by newsBotWarners and Mattel recently parted ways over their Masters of the Universe movie, and it seems that Sony has picked up the baton. Meanwhile, Barbie is set to star in her own film, joining Hot Wheels, Max Steel, Major Matt Mason and a new line of Universal monster toys on Mattel's movie roster. You want toys? You got 'em.The projected new He-Man movie will be built again from scratch since Warners retain the rights to the screenplays produced for Joel Silver. Unsurprisingly, the story is about a prince who becomes a warrior and battles Skeletor for his homeland of Eternia. No new writers have yet been assigned, but the new producers for Sony are reported to be Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch of Escape Artists, who were behind Knowing and The Taking of Pelham 123. So they know the action, and they know the sci-fi fantasy, and they know the PG-13. Interesting. »

Columbia wants the Universe
added by newsBotWarner Bros Pictures, just a few weeks ago, let go of the Mattel property called Masters of the Universe due to several conflicting viewpoints on how the movie would be approached. The studio parted ways, leaving the toys turned animated show to find another company to pick it up. Columbia Pictures has swooped on in to take the toy property and spread it onto the big screen. Columbia brings the production company Escape Artists into the fold to produce. Escape Artists have a few films within their resume that include The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 and Knowing.
He-Man originated out of the toy line called the Masters of the Universe out of Mattel in 1981. The story has constantly revolved around the planet Eternia where He-Man would be in constant battle with Skeletor over protecting their world and the Castle Greyskull. The action figures turned into a series of comic books, »

From Paris With Love Trailer Starring John Travolta
added by newsBotHave no fear, Travolta is here... or at least a weird version of Travolta where they've taken away all his hair and glued it onto his face instead! But as weird as he looks bald, it apparently makes him totally awesome! After playing a wacko terrorist in The Taking Of Pelham 123 he now returns to play a wacko agent in From Paris With Love, and while the two characters resemble each other a lot, there's still something about this one that just seems better. It's Travolta as we know him, the bad-guy era Travolta that wisecracks first and shoots later -- and I'm loving it. From Paris With Love could be called a buddy-cop movie, as it also stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers as a low-ranking intelligence operative working in the U.S. Ambassadors office in France who somehow ends up getting partnered with the high-ranking U.S. agent "Wax »

Travolta Takes On 'Paris' with F-Bombs
added by newsBotI've yet to determine whether John Travolta shot The Taking of Pelham 123 or From Paris with Love first, but it's nice to see him progress from a shaved-bald baddie with a fu manchu and a fondness for the f-word to a shaved-bald bad-ass with a full goatee and a fondness for the f-word. Such range he has.
Travolta's Agent Wax (yes, really) is teamed up with American lackey Richard Stevens (played by Dublin's own Jonathan Rhys Meyers) to prevent a terrorist attack in Paris (played by Paris). If the new expletive-laden trailer from Movie City News is any indication, there'll be plenty of wisecracks and crack shots in Pierre Morel and Luc Besson's follow-up to Taken, whose credits alone should've told us as much.
It's strange to see a trailer takes its own tonal turn towards the end, but it looks like things go from cheeky fun to »

Tom Felton Enjoys A Vacation And Denzel Washington Offers Advice In Today's Twitter-Wood
added by newsBotWarmoth is out of town, covering something for @multiplayers. So you Twitter-Wood-ers are stuck with me, your friendly neighborhood MTV Movies Blog editor. My picks aren't usually as structured as Brian's are, and today is no different. Still, there's plenty of fun, funny and fascinating pulled together for you after the jump.
First up is "Harry Potter" star Tom Felton, who's spending some vacation time with Universal Studios and Scrabble. Then we've got "Jennifer's Body" writer Diablo Cody coining a new phrase and Rob Corddry asking a ridiculous question. Also, Kevin Pollak offers a hilariously descriptive rundown of his preparations for a coming colonoscopy. Plus, sound advice from Denzel Washington (take note, Kanye-haters), observations on the female anatomy from Michael Ian Black and "The Office" star Rainn Wilson's steamy night... alone. I'm @geminibros and this is your Twitter-Wood report for September 16, 2009.

‘From Paris with Love’ Red Band Trailer
added by newsBotJohn Travolta: the name used to be synonymous with dancing, bad accents, Scientology, and mediocre films. Then Pulp Fiction came out and reminded everyone in Hollywood that he’s actually a pretty good leading man. Often times he plays such an intriguing bad guy, that one can’t help but enjoy his performance, whether you want to or not. Arguably, he was the best part about Face/Off, Primary Colors, A Civil Action, The General’s Daughter, Swordfish and even the ridiculous Battlefield Earth.
After this summer’s mild hit The Taking of Pelham 123, Travolta will channel his best Denzel Washington from Training Day in Pierre Morel’s latest action flick From Paris with Love. Co-starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers (The Tudors, August Rush) as an embassy worker who gets paired up with Detective Wax (Travolta) in Paris, the two seem to work together on a French drug deal - or are they? »

'Up' soars to Aus box office summit
added by newsBotUp has landed atop the Australian box office on its first weekend on release. The latest film from Pixar, its first in 3D, takes in more than $$2 million to knock Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds from the number one spot. The Taking Of Pelham 123 slips a place to three, while Aliens In The Attic and Australian film Charlie & Boots round out the top five. Elsewhere, The Ugly Truth plummets to number eight and new entry The Soloist debuts at nine. The »
