'Up' Tops Sales Chart

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment's "Up" was an easy victor in the weekly DVD and Blu-ray Disc sales competition, bowing at No. 1 on both the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart and VideoScan's Blu-Ray Disc sales chart.
Despite the high sales tally, there was enough rental demand for "Up" to snag a second-place finish on Home Media Magazine's rental chart for the week ending Nov. 15. There, "Up" was outpaced by Sony Pictures' "The Ugly Truth," a romantic comedy with Katherine Heigl that earned $88.9 million in U.S. theaters.

Gerard Butler named favourite Hollywood Brit

He’s some fella in some film about vampires or something) lamented the lack of acting jobs in the UK, explaining that’s why so many Brits head to Hollywood for work. And boy, he’s certainly right. Tinseltown is chokers with UK talent, both in front of the camera and behind, men and women and character actors as well as top leading lights. And so with this wealth of home-grown stars, online rental giant LOVEFiLM has asked their subscribers to vote for their top British actor and coming out on top is none other than Scottish beef-cake, Gerard Butler. Yup, the Paisley-born actor has channelled his sparkly-eyed charm into both boys favourites like 300, Unlawful Citizen (pictured) and RocknRolla and more female-friendly fare like The Ugly Truth and P.S. I Love You and it’s obviously worked well for him. But who did he beat in the poll? »

Sony Takes $1.634 Billion @ 2009 Box Office...
added by newsBotSony Pictures Releasing International has passed $1.634 billion at the box office, making 2009 the highest grossing year for the studio, according to Jeff Blake, chairman, Sony Pictures Worldwide Marketing and Distribution. The year has been driven by the success of a number of breakthrough hits in the international marketplace. The studio's most recent blockbuster, Vancouver-lensed 2012, from director Roland Emmerich, opened this past weekend to more than $165 million internationally ($230.4 million worldwide) and has yet to open in such markets as Japan, where it is expected to perform solidly. Also contributing to the overseas record is Columbia Pictures' Angels & Demons, taking in over $352 million in foreign markets. Sony Pictures Releasing International distributed Terminator Salvation overseas, earning $220.6 million. District 9 also proved popular, gaining $88 million overseas. Columbia's The Ugly Truth, a modestly budgeted comedy, took in more than $112 million from international audiences, while Michael Jackson's This Is It has so far earned more than $222 million worldwide. »
