How Far is Too Far When Characterizing a Film's Intended or Actual Audience?
added by newsBotHave you ever watched a movie and hated it so much you can't imagine anyone in their right mind actually enjoying it? I'm not talking about the films we all know cater to a tightly knit audience of fans, I'm talking about those films where you simply say to yourself, Nope, that film was so bad no one could possibly like it. Or perhaps you make a side comment to a friend saying, "Unless you're a nine-year-old shut-in and make a habit of drooling on yourself you couldn't have possibly liked that movie." It's a harsh assertion, but it's your opinion, not an all out declaration of globally accepted fact.
I bring this up because last week I posted the video you see just to the right, which is described on YouTube as a depiction of "how the next Transformers film will look." It's a comical mash-up of noise, explosions »

7.5 Million DVD Copies of ‘Transformers 2′ Sold
added by newsBotI have made no secret about the fact I think both Transformers and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen were awful. The scripts were weak, or practically non-existent in the case of the sequel, and editing so bad it was difficult at times to see what was going. Case in point, director Michael Bay kept the fight scenes moving at rapid pace then would cut to a slow motion shot of Shau Lebouf shouting “Optimus!” or Megan Fox running away. Now, as much as I can appreciate Fox’s particular “assets” moving in slow-mo, it would have been better to slow down the scenes I was really interested in, robots fighting.
Be that as it may, I have defended Bay in the sense he knows how to appeal to the masses and can make a profitable film. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen took in approximately $823 million dollars worldwide and that figure »

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Trailer Starring Jake Gyllenhaal
added by newsBotAfter a low quality version of the trailer found its way onto YouTube earlier today, IGN [1] has wisely decided to unveil the official trailer for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time a few hours early. I have to admit, I've been pretty curious to see what Jerry Bruckheimer and Mike Newell could do with this video game franchise on the big screen. All the right elements are here for an epic action/fantasy film, but will it just turn out to be another terrible game-to-movie travesty? One thing I can say after watching this trailer is that it looks very... expensive. I mean, the amount of special effects on screen here are ridiculous, at times almost on par with that 5-minute clip [2] from Roland Emmerich's 2012. Although I like what I see of the costumes and scenery, I'm not too sure about a lot of the weird CG effects. »
