Shohreh: Smart, Stunning, Sexy, Sophisticated
added by newsBotThis is Rc from StrangeCultureBlog.
It's no secret, a woman actress, particularly middle-aged actresses, have a challenge of finding great roles in our current movie system. Stories tend to be male heavy, and even younger females seem to have better odds at a gig with teen films, horror flick, and chatty rom-coms.
But where is the dramatic meat for a woman? Some years predicting supporting actress nominations takes some heavy handed devotion to even try to figure out what films have viable roles for supporting actresses.
But end of rant, let's turn to praise, for an actress I consistently enjoy, who not only is a middle-aged woman (57 years old) but also is Iranian.
Who do I speak of, but the lovely and talented Shohreh Aghdashloo.
Aghdashloo's name is probably most known for her Oscar nomination for the foreclosure meets cultural challenge film The House of Sand and Fog, where Shohreh

Ryan Reynolds: I can be Deadpool as well as Green Lantern
added by newsBotAfter Ryan Reynolds' well-received performance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, fans have been clamouring to see his character Wade Wilson evolve fully into masked mercenary Deadpool.
Comic book purists enjoyed Reynolds' portrayal in the early part of the Wolverine film but weren't too happy with deviations from the source material towards the end of the movie.
A Deadpool spin-off is in the pipeline at 20th Century Fox and Reynolds has been promising it will be accurate to the comics, showing him as the wisecracking 'merc with a mouth' who makes pop-culture references and 'breaks the fourth wall' (addresses the reader directly).
But then came the surprise: the 32-year-old Canadian was revealed to be on in the final three (along with Bradley Cooper and Justin Timberlake) to play Green Lantern over at Warner Bros. And then another surprise when Reynolds landed the role.
He'll be playing hotshot pilot Hal Jordan who

Comic Con 2009: RopeofSilicon Goes Geek for a Week
added by newsBotIn less than six hours from the time I started typing this sentence I will be on a plane leaving sunny Seattle, Washington for 80-degree weather and 70% humidity in the sauna known as San Diego for my fourth trip to the San Diego Comic Con and while this was the week we began looking at the potential Oscar nominees it is also the week we will take a look at next summer's blockbusters. Then again, even Oscar has a presence at this year's Con. Of course, I could make a bit of a stretch citing the attendance from Oscar nominees (and some winners) including Peter Jackson, Denzel Washington, Jackie Earle Haley, Josh Brolin, Robert Downey Jr., Diablo Cody, Jason Reitman, Nicolas Cage, Terry Gilliam, Robert Zemeckis, Jennifer Connelly, Woody Harrelson and Don Cheadle, but I think you all know who I am talking about... James Cameron. Cameron is sure to

Is it time to say 'Yes we can' to the 'uncool' Superman franchise?
added by newsBotIn Bryan Singer's Superman Returns, the hero mysteriously vanished from Earth for five years - and it looks as though he'll be gone from the big screen for just as long.
A new list by Variety of upcoming Warner Bros blockbusters, between now and the end of 2011, makes no mention of a further Superman adventure.
And in the recent court case over the rights to the character, Warner chairman Alan Horn admitted no film was in development, no script had been written and that the earliest another Superman film could be released would be 2012.
But lawyers warned that a failure to produce a film by 2011 would mean the heirs of co-creator Jerry Siegel could sue Warner Bros for damages.
So what's the delay? Well, the court papers from the lawsuit state that the character is seen as "uncool" and "damaged goods". Is this true and what can be done about this?

Wimbledon stars Serena and Venus Williams were in line for X-Men role
added by newsBotSerena Williams powered her way to her third Wimbledon title on Saturday, beating her older sister Venus in the women's singles final.
But the tennis-playing twosome nearly had another set of abilities altogether when they were in line for an X-Men movie role.
Brett Ratner, who directed X-Men: The Last Stand and was dating 27-year-old Serena back in 2005, was apparently interested in casting either of the sisters in the role of a mutant who was a bisexual hooker.
The Sun newspaper reported: "Brett feels either of the girls would be fantastic for the role, which is a superhero who oozes sex appeal. Her great power is the ability to seduce anyone."
The character was Stacy X (earlier called X-Stacy), whose real name is Miranda Leevald.
She is mutant with fighting skills, scaly snake-skin and the power to emit pheromones that, through skin-to-skin contact, can control the emotional and physical responses of anyone she touches,

added by newsBotIn the world of comics, a few superstar creators have made names for themselves on both Marvel and DC Comics titles. Artist Jim Lee launched "X-Men" and went on to do a classic run on "Batman." John Byrne defined "Fantastic Four" for years before redefining "Superman" in the 1980s.
Now, some of the biggest names in film are getting the chance to do the same with Marvel and DC's biggest characters, and big-name actors like Ryan Reynolds and Natalie Portman are getting the chance to define both publishers' characters for filmgoers.
Here are five actors who have been cast in live-action roles for characters originating in both the Marvel and DC Comics worlds.
