Exclusive: 'The Messenger' Poster Premiere
added by newsBotClick image below to view full poster
Cinematical has just received this exclusive poster for The Messenger -- scribe Oren Moverman's directorial debut starring Ben Foster, Woody Harrelson, Samantha Morton, and Jena Malone. What a jolt, eh? The dark and stern look in Harrelson's eyes is a far cry from all the zombie fighting we've been watching him tackle lately, and this is also a decidedly more adult role for Foster (who you might remember from 30 Days of Night and X3).
Yes, this is a new Iraq War drama, but between the talent involved and the fact that this comes from the pen behind Jesus' Son and I'm Not There, this should make for a bold, brave journey -- one said to be quite the emotional rollercoaster ride. Jessica Barnes first posted about the film back in February of 2008 when Foster signed on, and Morton and Harrelson signed on soon after. »

No Ellen Page in X-Men: First Class
added by newsBotJoss Whedon thinks Ellen Page, who played Kitty Pryde in X-Men: The Last Stand, should get her own X-Men movie. But despite the variety of X-Men movies in various stages of production, no Page-centric movie has been planned.
For X-Men fans hoping Page might be included in the "young X-Men" world of X-Men: First Class, Page told MTV that she's not been keeping up with the X-Men universe.
I don't even know what it is, so I couldn't tell you. I think Kitty Pryde's rad, so who knows what will happen. I have no idea, though. I'm not saying that as Internet innuendo. There's truly nothing happening. Page may not know what First Class is, but her Last Stand co-star Anna Pacquin stated that she wants to reprise her role as Rogue in First Class. X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner maintains that no role in First Class has been cast. »

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009): Blu-ray (Short Ends and Leader)
added by newsBotWhat, exactly, were people expecting from X-Men Origins: Wolverine? After the incessant bellyaching that followed the announcement of Brett Ratner as director of X-Men: The Last Stand, (and the resulting, subpar film) Fox went out and hired Oscar winning director Gavin Hood (responsible for Best Foreign Language Film Tsotsi) and offered up a cast of considerable talent including returning action man Hugh Jackman, as well as Liev Schreiber, Danny Huston, and Ryan Reynolds. They mined the comic for favorite characters (Gambit, Deadpool) and reset the franchise to follow the adventures of James Howlett/Logan during his years in pre-Dr. Xavier exile.… »

'Whip It' And Teenage Rebellion: Vampirism, Jedi Quests And Other Ways To Act Out
added by newsBotParents, it is popularly thought, do not understand. This sentiment has been a constant running throughout human history, but it seems like parents have understood even less in the past century. It’s been 60 years since the word teenager was first coined, and parental understanding has just gotten murkier since. What the hell is their problem anyway, trying to instill you with their personal system of values? It’s Bs and we all know it is. This is why it’s necessary to rebel!
Doing something dangerous is usually a successful strategy for rebelling against parental authority. Bliss Cavendar, as played by Ellen Page in this week’s “Whip It!,” knows a good thing in the sport of roller derby when she sees it. Your mom trying to get you into the beauty pageant scene? Then try a sport that involves knocking people in roller skates down while moving at »

Convention Autograph Fees Reach New Low By Reaching New High
added by newsBotWho wants to have a good old heart-breaking laugh in the middle of an economic recession?
You know Patrick Stewart, star of Star Trek: The Next Generation, X-Men, X2, X-Men: The Last Stand and that delightful one-man stage version of A Christmas Carol? Who doesn't? What geek doesn't wake up in the morning to "Tea, earl grey, hot" and think of the Great Bald One?
Well, you better switch to decaf, my good friend, before you read this news: At the upcoming Chiller Theatre convention, one of the larger horror/sci-fi/kitsch festivals on the East Coast, Mr. Patrick Stewart will be commanding $100 per "photo op". That doesn't appear to include an autograph with it. Oh, and and would you mind forking that over in advance, his handlers ask you kindly.
We've reported on this consistently over the years. There's a lot of talent on the convention circuit that make their living at these shows. »

What We Need From X-Men 4
added by newsBotThe news the other day about producer Lauren Schuler Donner hinting at the beginnings of plans for an X-Men 4 movie (and a movie based on The New Mutants) got me thinking of some of the infinite possibilities for the next X-Men installment.
I could go on and on about stories and characters I’d like to see, but keeping to the basics, I’ll discuss some of the issues from the existing X-trilogy that need to be rectified going forward with the next movie, should it come to fruition.
Join us as we discuss what we’d like to see from X-Men 4 and open the floor for your ideas!
We’ll go through some topics that need to be addressed, many of which stem from issues we were left with from X-Men 3: The Last Stand, starting with who the villain(s) should be.

Surrogates Review
added by newsBotSurrogates Directed by: Jonathan Mostow Written by: Michael Ferris and John Brancato (screenplay), Robert Venditti and Brett Weldele (graphic novel) Starring: Bruce Willis, Radha Mitchell, James Cromwell, Rosamund Pike, Ving Rhames, Boris Kodjoe It's been a pretty solid year for science-fiction films thus far, with movies like Moon, District 9 and Watchmen all raising the bar for thoughtful futuristic tales on the big screen in one way or another. While this is great news for moviegoers, it's unfortunate for a filmmaker who is trying to put together a big budget action/sci-fi flick later in the year that has any hope of measuring up. Case in point: Surrogates director Jonathan Mostow, who finds himself faced with the unenviable task of following all of the aforementioned films, in addition to a whole summer's worth of massive special effects blockbusters. On the one hand, he has the advantage of Mr. Bruce Willis in the lead role, »
