Ben Foster Opens Pandorum’s Box
added by newsBotBen Foster’s face is one that many filmgoers have come to know over the past few years. His roles have been many and varied: He was Warren Worthington III (a.k.a. Angel) in X-men: The Last Stand, the sociopathic henchman bent on springing his boss (Russell Crowe) in 3:10 To Yuma and, most recently (and notably to Fango readers), the prophetic Stranger in 30 Days Of Night. And while his name is not a familiar one to your average viewer, that should soon change now that he’s headlining major projects like Pandorum, the sci-fi chiller opening this week from Overture Films.
Directed by Antibodies’ Christian Alvart, Pandorum features a diverse cast that includes Dennis Quaid, Twilight bad boy Cam Gigandet, mixed martial arts legend Cung Le and newcomer Antje Traue. Travis Milloy’s screenplay has this ensemble confronting…well, Foster won’t exactly say. “Doing interviews, particularly for »

X-Men 4 and New Mutants on way, Wolverine director keen on Magneto
added by newsBotThe success of X-Men Origins: Wolverine - whose adamantium skeleton was enough to withstand an internet leak and a clawing by critics - proved the preternatural powers of 20th Century Fox's mutant movie franchise.
We've all been wondering which project will follow and it seemed for a moment that X-Men: First Class might be up next.
But a Twitter message from actor Tim Pocock (the young Cyclops in the Wolverine film) hinting at a start date for First Class in spring 2010 was said to be a hoax.
Producer Lauren Shuler Donner has reportedly given some further clues at a Los Angeles press event for the Wolverine Blu-ray and DVD release.
Slashfilm reports: "Shuler Donner revealed that she has been cooking up plans for several other mutant films. The two she named? An X4, reuniting the X-Men, and a big screen outing for The New Mutants. X4, she said, had yet »

Lauren Shuler Donner Talks X-Men: First Class
added by newsBotX-Men franchise producer Lauren Shuler Donner told /Film, during a press junket for the “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” DVD/Blu-ray release, that the other movies she wants to see happen beyond X-Men: First Class are X4 and The New Mutants.
Donner also revealed that early plans have been considered for a fourth “X-Men” film reuniting the remaining cast members from “X-Men: The Last Stand” but the idea has yet to be pitched to the studio.
She also took the opportunity to clear up the confusion surrounding what was written last week on the Twitter page of Tim Pocock, who played the young Cyclops in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” Pocock apparently wrote:
Currently shooting Australian TV series till February 2010…then X-men: First Class
giving rise to rumours that casting had begun and a start date for filming had been set. However, according to Shuler Donner, there’s no truth to the initial claim. »

Wolverine's Gavin Hood Wants To Direct Magneto, Unfortunately
added by newsBotI thought Gavin Hood would bring us something great with Wolverine. It made sense, kind of. This was a dude who directed the critical favorite Tsotsi and the decent-but-not-amazing Rendition. And while neither revealed any chance that Hood would be a great superhero movie director, they did show that he may be able to bring back to the franchise the ever important character development that X-Men: The Last Stand so severely lacked. As many of you know, he didn.t. Now, against the wishes of people who paid to watch X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Hood has expressed interest in the next installment of the series, X-Men Origins: Magneto. Talking to MTV, Hood said, .Absolutely, if I was asked I.d take an interest.. He continued, "But the truth is I haven.t been asked, and I think that the studio right now is waiting to see how we do with the »

DVD Review: X-Men Volume 3
added by newsBotFor the lot of us, “X-Men” defined what we’d think of the characters and for sure, it is what made me a fan of the mutants and introduced me to their adventures in comics. The series may not have translated every single comic story to a T, but it was exceptional at honoring the characters and defined them for my generation. It was akin to Batman: The Animated Series in that regard although that masterpiece did feature better animation. Not to say that the stuff in “X-Men” wasn’t creative, quite the contrary. While the first season or two took a hit as far as how well the animation was crafted, the series did come into it’s own and was dazzling.
But as kids, we didn’t care. We wanted pure, all our mutant mayhem and “X-Men” delivered in spades. But again it wasn’t just about the action. »

Legal battle blamed for delaying next Superman film
added by newsBotThe Legal Battle between Warner Bros/DC and the heirs of Jerry Siegel has been blamed for causing delays to a further Superman film.
Earlier this week, the head of Warner's new DC Entertainment unit said there were no current plans for another Superman movie.
It's now reported that Warner Bros has admitted that ongoing litigation has stopped any attempts to get Superman back on the big screen.
According to fansite Superman Homepage, Warner Bros senior vice president of corporate communications Scott Rowe has said in an email: "Superman is an important member of our family, but because of ongoing litigation we cannot announce any concrete plans at this time.
"That said, at some point in the future, you're likely to see a new Superman. So... have no fear."
Warner Bros has been locked in a protracted legal dispute over rights with the heirs of the character's co-creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. »

[DVD Review] The Shooter Series, Volume One: Brett Ratner
added by newsBotNot long before Michael Bay poured acid down fanboy throats with his double whammy of escapist fertilizer, one name could be heard used with an equal amount of fervor: Brett Ratner. “The rat,” as he was affectionately dubbed by a cavalcade of enraged fanboys, had done a major disservice to the community in the form of X-Men: The Last Stand. Rumor of rushed rewrites and a hectic shooting schedule plagued the film and though Ratner’s entry opened with the biggest box-office take of the trilogy, The Last Stand was critically derided and universally cast out by most fanboys.
My own relationship with Ratner’s work skews on the side of shrewd criticism. I enjoyed Rush Hour 1 and 2, thought Red Dragon was effective if not particularly stellar and was one of the few people I know (aside from my Dad) who enjoyed Ratner’s oft-quoted critical and box office failure The Family Man. »

Brett Ratner vs. Comic Book Fans (A Friendly Response)
added by newsBotHave you ever wanted to look deep into the dark recesses of a comic book movie director’s mind - nay - heart? You don’t have to look much further than the interview Star Pulse recently held with director Brett Ratner. The Q&A session was mostly a junket to build hype for Ratner’s upcoming film The Shooter Series, but also touched on Beverly Hills Cop 4 and his thoughts on comic book fans, and it’s that last part I want to focus on.
There are sites out there (that we are most certainly friends with and fans of) that regularly rip Ratner and his films a new one. So I’m going to preface this article by saying that if you search Screen Rant you’ll find that while we may not be his biggest fans, we haven’t jumped on the “‘Brett Ratner sucks’ bandwagon” in »

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (Two-Disc Special Edition) - DVD Review
added by newsBotIn my opinion, Wolverine.s lone wolf persona does well in this origin picture. It sure beats X3, but also has some similarities. It appears a new franchise has started that will highlight the origins of the X-Men characters. So far the only ones I.ve heard that are being given the treatment are fan favorite Wolverine and I think that I heard that Magneto is up for a solo feature. In 1845 Canada,, two lads discover that they.re half-brothers but they also discover that they.re mutants with longevity and claws of bone. They grow into Logan (Hugh Jackman) and Victor (Liev Schreiber) and use their rage and long lives to fight in every major war. Logan »
