Rainn Wilson Joins Hero Comedy 'Super'
added by newsBotRainn Wilson has already met the people behind the comics at DC. Now, it looks like he'll have a chance to leave his own mark on crime-fighting characters. Wilson will re-unite with his "Juno" co-star Ellen Page for a new superhero comedy from "Slither" writer and director James Gunn at the end of the year. The new film, simply titled "Super," will assemble the "Office" and "X-Men: The Last Stand" actors with Liv Tyler to take a stab at comedy centered around the spandex-and-capes genre.
"Super" will begin production in December, according to Variety. Gunn will reportedly direct his own script for the movie under the production company This is That, which most recently put out "Adventureland."
In the story, Wilson's character adopts a pseudo-superhero alter ego and dubs himself the Crimson Bolt. Though he lacks any real powers, he picks up a wrench as his primary means of distributing justice. »

Youngblood, More Brett Ratner And 'Batman and Robin' In Today's Twitter Report
added by newsBotBrett Ratner returns to the Twitter Report today. I like to think of myself as your comics-oriented Tweet jockey (Tj, if you will), and since he's been posting adamantly about his comics interests this week, I wanted to put a follow-up to his tweet yesterday at the top of today's report.
Apparently, Ratner owns one of the holy grails for comics collectors and as well as a lot of "Youngblood," which he'll be adapting to film.
Meanwhile, Cameron Stewart tweeted his excitement about reforming the "Seaguy" team by joining Grant Morrison on "Batman and Robin", Bryan Lee O'Malley mourned the ending to John Allison's long-running webcomic "Scary Go Round," and Gail Simone contemplated a move into video game development.
Check it all out in the Twitter Report for September 11, 2009.
@BrettRatner @michaelwryan i am actually the proud owner of Action Comics No.1. as well as a lot of justice league and recently Liefeld"s youngblood. »

Five 'True Blood' Actors Who Have Their Fangs In The Comic Book Community
added by newsBotThis weekend, the HBO vampire series "True Blood" wraps up its second season, but don't expect the bloodsuckers to stay dead for too long—not only will this year's ratings ensure a third season for "True Blood," but many of the cast members will be popping up in other places outside of Bon Temps, Louisiana.
One such place, believe it or not, is the comic book world—whether in a film adaptation or in the paneled pages themselves, these five "True Blood" regulars all have a connection to comics.
Anna Paquin: Currently, actress Anna Paquin is best known as the telepathic Sookie Stackhouse on "True Blood," but comic book fans know her for a different role: the power-absorbing mutant Rogue in the "X-Men" franchise.
Although her character hasn't been seen since "X-Men: The Last Stand," Paquin has expressed interest in returning to the franchise, assuming she gets a little more butt to kick, »

Brett Ratner: Attack on comic book fans was 'out of context'
added by newsBotX-men: The Last Stand director Brett Ratner says negative comments he is reported to have made about superhero enthusiasts were quoted out of context.
Ratner, whose X-Men film was a box office hit in 2006 but drew mixed response from critics and hardcore fans, said on his Twitter page that his views were misrepresented.
He said via Twitter: "Comic book fans: I recently did an interview to promote my Shooter Series DVD and I was quoted out of context.
"Just to clarify. I was actually stating that I can appreciate the passion that comic book fans have for these characters... even if it's at my own expense."
It's likely he was referring to an article on Pop Eater, which now seems to have been removed.
In that interview, he had allegedly said: "When you talk about 'people,' you're talking about comic book geeks. I love a person who's passionate about a comic book character. »

Brett Ratner's Message To Comic Book Fans & More 'Beatles: Rock Band' Reactions: It's The Twitter Report!
added by newsBotBrett Ratner set his Caps Lock to Shout yesterday and tweeted a post addressed to comic book fans everywhere. Apparently, someone accused him of being a liar at some point. I'm not sure of the exact context, but Ratner wants everyone to know that "No One Is Lying."
Brian Michael Bendis and Gail Simone, meanwhile, have been discussing their fondness for "The Beatles: Rock Band." Artist Mike Norton isn't quite as psyched about the release, but he'll probably let you play bass with him.
Elsewhere, Jock is getting pumped for his "Losers" set visit and Ron Marz has some advice for aspiring writers.
It's all below in the Twitter Report for September 10, 2009.
@BrettRatner Attn Comic Book Fans: There Are 3 Sides To Every Story. Your Side, My Side, And The Truth. And No One Is Lying.

Some will be hunted, some will be feed, and some will become part of the family...whether they like it or not."

Patrick Stewart set to return in X-Men but not in Star Trek
added by newsBotAmong the planned projects in 20th Century Fox's X-Men series are the prequels X-Men: First Class - looking at the early years of Professor Charles Xavier's school for mutants - and X-Men Origins: Magneto - telling the backstory of the professor's former friend before he became an embittered archvillain.
Xavier was played by Patrick Stewart in the previous trilogy and in a cameo at the end of X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
And the actor has given the strongest hint yet that he is set to feature in either or both of these two prequels, as well as addressing any possibility of his return to the revived Star Trek franchise.
Speaking at the Atlanta sci-fi and pop culture convention Dragon*Con he said that, from what he had heard, audiences "had not seen the last of Xavier."
Xavier has a lead role in the First Class storyline and will also appear in the Magneto prequel. »
