Geek gossip: Kick-Ass, Green Hornet, Batman 3, Iron Man
added by newsBotBritish director Matthew Vaughn's new action comedy film Kick-Ass is to be released on April 16, 2010, it's been announced.
Last month, Lionsgate won a bidding war to distribute the independently-produced film, which is based on a comic book by Scottish writer Mark Millar and centres on a teenager who chooses to become a real-life masked superhero.
It will be Vaughn's debut in the comic book genre after previous involvements with X-Men: The Last Stand and Thor never came to fruition.
And it will be interesting to see what he ends up doing next, in particular whether he gets offered another superhero adaptation from the teetering pile of potential projects waiting to hit the big screen.
In fact, he's already indicated what he might like to tackle after Kick-Ass comes out.
Speaking to MTV, Vaughn said: "[I'd] love to do The Avengers. And Superman... I think it would be great to reinvent Superman. »

Kick-Ass Director Matthew Vaughn Wants to Direct The Avengers and Superman
added by newsBotDirector Matthew Vaughn is a huge comic book fan, as his upcoming Kick-Ass adaptation hopes to prove. However, Vaughn has left more superhero movies than he's made, having abandoned both Thor and X-Men: The Last Stand.
But that doesn't mean that Vaughn isn't ready for more. Vaughn told MTV about two projects he's hoping to direct:
I grew up watching superhero films, so I want to make superhero films. I was desperate to do Iron Man about 8 years ago, and everyone was like, "Iron Man, no one will go watch that." Cut to now, and it's a huge hit. [I'd] love to do The Avengers. And Superman ... I think it would be great to reinvent Superman. Of course, Jon Favreau directed Iron Man, and he's also been discussed as the potential director for The Avengers. In fact, Favreau feels that The Avengers might keep the Iron Man series from falling into »

The X-Men follow Wolverine with a Japanese treatment
added by newsBotLast Month, trailers for new Japanese anime series of Wolverine and Iron Man were unveiled - with the metal-clawed mutant looking very different, as you can in the image above.
And back in April, Wolverine had also been given a manga makeover in a new Japanese comic book, Wolverine: Prodigal Son (right).
Well, now many more of Marvel's mutants been given a radical new remix in a comic book called X-Men: Misfits.
As you probably know, anime is the name given to Japanese animation and manga to Japanese comics. There are different categories of manga according to their target demographic: The Wolverine title is shonen manga - marketed to males aged 10 to 18 - while X-Men: Misfits is shojo manga - intended for girls in that age range.
Volume 1 of X-Men: Misfits (pictured below) has just been released in paperback and was launched at a party in New York on Friday. »

added by newsBotFor those of you who caught the Boise State game or "Big Brother" last night, I've got some good news for you. You can click right on ahead and find out what Seth Meyers and Shannon Elizabeth were thinking while you picked your jaw up off the floor in front of the TV. I'm in the prior camp.
Moving on, I've got a pile of photos on the Twitter-Wood playlist today. Selecting among all of Emmy Rossum's shots onstage with Counting Crows in Central Park proved too difficult, so I just grabbed one and suggest you head over to her account for the rest. Grabbing the Twitter Pic of the Day honors, however, was Brett Ratner, who posted a shot of himself with Michael Jackson and P. Diddy. There seems to be something different going on with each of them in the scene. Keep on going, and you'll see »

Matthew Vaughn Wants to Direct The Avengers
added by newsBotMatthew Vaughn, director and producer of the upcoming rated-r comic book adaptation, Kick-Ass, really wants to helm Marvel Studio’s The Avengers movie.
Vaughn, if you remember, was director of X-Men: The Last Stand… for a short while anyway. After he took over for Bryan Singer, he quickly left which opened to door for Brett Ratner to direct the project which in my mind, is the absolute worst of the four X-Men movies.
Looking forward instead of back though, Vaughn now has directed three feature films: Layer Cake, Stardust and now Kick-Ass (which quickly earned itself an American distributor after premiering footage at San Diego Comic-Con.) Now, he wants to do another superhero flick…
In speaking with MTV, he revealed the following desires of his:
“[I'd] love to do ‘The Avengers,’ and Superman… I think it would be great to reinvent Superman.”
Vaughn was attached to direct the Thor solo movie »

Brett Ratner 'sad' about leaving Conan remake
added by newsBotBrett Ratner is best known to sci-fi and superhero fans for his like-it-or-loathe-it work on X-Men: The Last Stand and his attachment to comic book adaptation Youngblood, about a team of government sponsored celebrity superheroes, for which he wants Twilight's Robert Pattinson in a starring role.
He was also attached to the Conan remake and had to drop out in May, with Marcus Nispel taking his place.
Speaking about his departure from Conan, Ratner told MTV: "I really wanted to do that. I'm sad about it, because I loved the script.
"It just didn't work out - scheduling and stuff. It's an incredible project, and Marcus will do a great job."
He had earlier said: "The script is very cool, contemporary ... [it's] going back to the original source material - the mythology of the characters."
The film, due out in 2011, opens on the battlefield where Conan is born and tells an »

Brett Ratner teams with Fame director on Blade Runner-style sci-fi epic
added by newsBotDirector Kevin Tancharoen, who helmed last year's remake of 80s musical hit Fame as his first feature film project, is leaving behind lycra and legwarmers to venture into sci-fi territory.
Will we now see performing arts students dancing in the streets on top of spaceships? Probably not...
He is to make a sci-fi flick called Arcana, which is set up at Rat Entertainment and will be produced by Brett Ratner (director of Red Dragon, X-Men: The Last Stand and the Rush Hour series) and Jay Stern (a producer on Rush Hour 3). Universal will distribute.
Tancharoen (pictured right) told Moviehole: "Arcana is a unique blend of the graphic-novel backdrop - like Blade Runner - and shot like 300, and has a little bit of Warriors mixed in there, with a little bit of martial arts, so it's got a lot of crazy elements in there. It's going to be really cool. »

'Fame' Director/Choreographer Wants To Make A Sci-Fi Film Called 'Arcana'
added by newsBot"Star Wars" and "Dune" have already defined the modern space opera, but could the world be ready for a "space musical"? Other than "Jews in Space." "Fame" director/choreographer Kevin Tancharoen wants to pursue his directing aspirations now that he's completed work on this year's tale of high school stardom quests. And he's looking at George Lucas' "Red Tails" writer John Ridley to do it.
"'Arcana' is a unique blend of the graphic-novel backdrop -– like 'Blade Runner' -– and shot like '300,' and has a little bit of 'Warriors' mixed in there, with a little bit of martial arts, so it’s got a lot of crazy elements in there," Tancharoen told Moviehole. "We’re writing it right now actually -– a guy named John Ridley is writing it; I’m very happy we got him."
Though he didn't mention any big musical numbers in »
