Fame Director to Direct Stylized Sci-Fi
added by newsBotMusical/dance director Kevin Tancharoen, whose remake of Fame will hit theaters on September 25th, has been talking about a sci-fi action project entitled Arcana that he wants to direct.
“Arcana is a unique blend of the graphic-novel backdrop – like Blade Runner – and shot like 300, and has a little bit of Warriors mixed in there, with a little bit of martial arts, so it’s got a lot of crazy elements in there,” said Tancharoen, pretty much appealing to every 13 year old boy in existence.
While the names dropped within Tancharoen’s quote — Blade Runner, 300, The Warriors — are a dime a dozen, one name stands out in this equation: Brett Ratner, director of X-Men: The Last Stand. He’s producing the film, which is currently being crafted by Red Tails’ writer John Ridley.
I’m equal parts skeptical and intrigued by this project. While I’m a fan of any »

Big Brother bosses to produce Muslim version of the X-Men
added by newsBotIt May be the end of Big Brother on Channel 4 next year but the production company behind the reality show has other projects in the pipeline.
Dutch firm Endemol is producing a new cartoon series based on The 99, a comic book featuring a team of Muslim superheroes. The animated series is heading to British television later this year.
The 99 comic was launched in 2006 by Dr Naif al-Mutawa, a clinical psychologist from Kuwait who wanted to give children better role models of Islam after the September 11 terrorism attacks.
The so-called "Sharia-compliant version of the X-Men" has taken the Arab world by storm, although there has been some opposition to the comic book in the Middle East. Saudi Arabian censors only passed The 99 when it gained financing from an Islamic bank with a Sharia board.
The heroes each possess one of Allah's 99 attributes and include Jabbar, a Saudi Arabian equivalent of the Hulk; Darr the Afflicter, »

Bryan Singer Eyeing X-Men: First Class?
added by newsBotBryan Singer may be setting himself up to direct both a Battlestar Galatica and an Excalibur remake, but Variety reports that Singer is also "flirting with directing" X-Men: First Class, the spin-off written by The O.C. creator Josh Schwartz that would follow the adventures of a teenage incarnation of the X-Men team.
Singer has admitted that he regrets leaving X-Men: The Last Stand and has even mentioned interest in directing X-Men Origins:Magneto, though he cited Magneto's Nazi back story as a possible deal breaker, considering the amount of Nazi-related movies on Singer's resume already. That may be the reason Singer is turning his attention to First Class.
X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner has said, "Nothing would please me more than to bring Bryan on for another [X-Men] movie," and considering the amount of movies being lined up, like Deadpool and possibly a Gambit movie, there should be another X-Men »

Bryan Singer 'Flirting' With Directing 'X-Men: First Class'
added by newsBotOne of the great "What If?" situations of comic book movie history centers on Bryan Singer's departure from the "X-Men" franchise. What if he hadn't abandoned the third X-film in favor of "Superman Returns"? How different would his version of the movie have been from "X-Men: The Last Stand"? And now that his days with "Superman" appear numbered, will Singer once again set foot inside of Xavier's School for the Gifted?
The answer could well be yes, if a well-hidden bit of news is any indication. At the tail-end of a Variety article detailing Bryan Singer's upcoming obligations as a director and producer, it's mentioned that the filmmaker is "flirting with directing 'X-Men: First Class,'" marking a potential return to the mutant franchise he pioneered on the big screen.
While this is far from a finished deal, it does represent several rumors and even words from »

Brett Ratner Speaks Out About His 'Conan' Departure
added by newsBotHe's already had his way with Marvel's mutants and he's about to dive into the world of Rob Liefeld's "Youngblood" (with Robert Pattinson at the helm, if the director has any say in the matter) but there's one comic book character that has eluded director Brett Ratner.
For some time, Ratner was attached to direct the upcoming "Conan" movie, which he described as neither an homage or a remake, but a new exploration of the Cimmerian's classic roots. But sooner than you could pray to Crom, the "X-Men: The Last Stand" director was off the project, with Marcus Nispel taking his place.
"I really wanted to do that," Ratner confessed to MTV News about his departure from the "Conan" movie. "I'm sad about it, because I loved the script."
Ratner's love for Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly's script is no secret, as he explained to MTV News »

In an abbreviated rundown, I've included input from Seth Meyers, Rainn Wilson and Ashton Kutcher, among others. Whatever your take, hopefully we can all agree that he was great with Cameron Diaz in "There's Something About Mary."
The second Brett in the report today, Ratner, wished his favorite director, Roman Polanski a happy birthday. Click on down to read what he had to say alongside a post-"Inglourious Basterds" suggestion for the Weinsteins, Tom Felton's return to the gym, and Ice-t's photo op with Tracy Morgan. Brett Ratner Wants "Twilight's" Robert Pattinson for "Youngblood"
added by newsBotBrett Ratner ("X-Men: The Last Stand") is working on his big-screen adaptation of the superhero comic book series "Youngblood" and he wants Robert Pattinson to star.
Ratner tells MTV News, "Definitely [Robert Pattinson] from 'Twilight. He just feels like he belongs in that world. I don't only see him as a vampire, he's a really good actor."
"Youngblood," conceived by Rob Liefeld, is about a team of superheroes funded by the government who battles super-villains externally, and tortured drama internally. The leader of the team is a former FBI agent called "Shaft" who is an expert marksman and may likely be the role that Rattner is thinking for Pattinson.
Ratner says, "[Pattinson] could do anything. He just has that look."
"I picture him on Youngblood, for sure."
As of now, the script is still being written, but Ratner is promising that the original comic books' darker themes will permeate into the adaptation.

Brett Ratner Wants Robert Pattinson In Youngblood
added by newsBotAt the beginning of the year, it was announced that Brett Ratner would be directing yet another comic book movie, Youngblood. Of course this wasn’t met with positive reaction, but since then, the only other major update we had was that the screenwriters were half-way through finishing their first draft of the script.
The few details we did find touched on some of the characters we may see, one that we wouldn’t see, and the unique reality show elements would stylize the film – The Youngblood team are celebs who work for the government, after all.
Today, we have one more update for you about who Ratner wants to star in his film…
MTV spoke with Brett Ratner and asked him if he had any ideas of what actors he’d like to play a part in the film.
“Definitely [Robert Pattinson] from ‘Twilight,’… He just feels like he belongs in that world.
