G.I. Joe has explosive power at the box office

The film, directed by Stephen Sommers and based on Hasbro's action figures (known as Action Man and Action Force in the UK), took $56.2million in North America and $44.1million elsewhere, reports Variety.
Paramount aimed for international appeal by following the comic book adaptation of G.I. Joe, which includes operatives from outside the USA, and by setting the story in several overseas territories. It also featured an international cast.
In the USA, G.I. Joe scored the fourth-best opening of all time for an August release after The Bourne Ultimatum ($69.3 million), Rush Hour 2 ($67.4 million) and Signs ($60.1 million).
As I reported earlier, the studio decided not to screen the movie to mainstream critics after Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen did exceptionally well
