Former Legendary Pictures chief marketing officer Scott Mednick is producing American Gladiators, with the goal being to create an action story that takes place inside the world Ferraro has created. Ferraro noted American Gladiators was originally conceived as a film, but the property "took a detour and became a TV phenomenon”. McConaughey as Captain America?
added by newsBotEver since First Avenger: Captain America was announced, casting rumors have been floating about the Interweb like motes in a sawmill. But more importantly, there's always been a favorite for the lead—someone whose name keeps getting whispered every time the subject arises. And that someone is Matthew McConaughey.
Oh sure, potential candidate rumors have included Will Smith, Channing Tatum and even Mike O'Hearn (American Gladiators).
McConaughey, however, most seems to embody the part, in the minds of many. Unfortunately, however, the last time he was asked about whether he might be interested in playing the superhero, his reaction was that he'd never even heard of the character.
Oops.
Things might be changing, however. During a press conference for Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, the 39 year-old actor was once again asked about whether he would be interested in starring in the Captain America film. And this time, his response was a bit more positive.

Some of the potential candidates include Will Smith, Channing Tatum, Mike O'Hearn ("American Gladiators") and Matthew McConaughey. Out of all the actors, McConaughey keeps being named as the favorite, mostly because he looks the part. Unfortunately, the last time he was asked about whether he's interested in taking on the superhero, he said that he never heard of the character. Former Gladiator Hellga plays gay in "Madea Goes to Jail"
added by newsBotYou might recognize Robin Coleman under a different name: Hellga. On last year's return of American Gladiators, Coleman competed as the blondest of the buff crew, taking on any who dared challenge her in a physical contest.
After a brief stint on Days of Our Lives, Coleman is on the big screen playing a character named Big Sal in Tyler Perry's new film, Madea Goes to Jail. The film reached number one this past weekend in its debut.
Big Sal is a lesbian inmate with whom Madea has several run-ins. One review cites their scenes as mostly of the slapstick violent variety:
A melee with Big Sal involves Madea shoving the woman's head beneath a steam press. [Another character] Candy also gets into the act, half-heartedly elbowing Big Sal after Madea tosses her foe into a laundry bin. It looks like Coleman wasn't hired just for her acting skills. The woman

Against The Dark (DVD Review)
added by newsBotThere's something odd about the recent wave of "vampire" and "zombie" films that claim to be one or the other, while in reality are neither. In Richard Crudo's directorial debut Against The Dark aka the much-discussed "Steven Seagal Vs. Vampires" flick, the creatures found within are said to be "vampires" (per the film's marketing), but really aren't - in a kind of I Am Legend sort of way.
Note: This review does contain Spoilers, so beware if you choose to read on...
The film starts off with a definition of the word "infected" on the screen, complimented by a voice-over explaining that the world has become overrun by some sort of viral plague a la 28 Days Later. We get a curious mix of stock footage likely culled from the Sony Pictures libary that not only spans multiple locations, but also several decades. I have to admit pausing the DVD

'American Gladiators' Heads to the Big Screen
added by newsBotImagine an alternate universe where American Gladiators never came to your television set. Instead it was showing at every multiplex across the country. That was the original dream of show creator Johnny Ferraro, and now it might actually happen. I feel a bit like Egon from Ghostbusters passing this information along from Tobin's Spirit Guide.
Variety reports that indeed an American Gladiators movie is in the works, and that the "goal is to create an action story that takes place inside the world Ferraro has created." You mean like, a gym where people take swings at each other with giant padded q-tips? Stranger things have probably happened in the movie world, but I'm scratching my head to come up with one that's gone down this route.
The film will be produced by Scott Mednick, formerly of Legendary Pictures, with Martin Guigui of Sunset Pictures, Joe Allegro, and Johnny Ferraro serving as executive producers.

American Gladiators: The Movie
added by newsBotBelieve it or not, but the American Gladiator TV series has been on the air every year except one during the past 20 years, beginning in 1988 and lasting all the way through to 2008 when the series was revived, given a primetime slot and co-hosted by Hulk Hogan. However, it didn’t seem to take off like some thought it would (at least not in my neck of the woods), and so, naturally, the only thing left to do now with a property no one is really interested in is to somehow turn it into a movie. (If the movie fails, look out for American Gladiators: The Pop-Up Book!)Variety reports that Sunset Pictures is developing and funding a big-screen version of American Gladiators that will actually take place within the world of the TV show and still manage to churn out tons of action....
