Gays of our Lives (January 12, 2009)
added by newsBotIn this edition of Gays Of Our Lives, we introduce “In The Spotlight,” a new recurring feature where we examine in depth a particular series, character or storyline of gay interest.
First up, Casualty’s Dr. Toby De Silva, played by Matthew Needham, who bid goodbye this past week to the long running BBC medical series after a story arc during which the character struggled not only with his sexuality, but with his decision to become a doctor as well.
When Toby first joined the show in September 2007, his conflict over whether or not to be a doctor was quickly apparent as we learned that his overbearing parents had forced him into medicine. And while his relationships with women were rare, fleeting and usually disastrous, there hadn’t been much of an inkling regarding Toby being gay – at least not until he was found in bed with Ben Harding (Mark Letheren

"True Blood" hires a Hispanic vampire
added by newsBotHBO's vampire drama True Blood has just gotten a little hotter. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Cuban-American actress Valerie Cruz has signed on to play an "elegant Hispanic vampire" named Isabel on the new season.
Dexter fans will recognize Cruz as having played Syvia Prado on the Showtime series, but she's also made appearances in several other television shows, including Nip/Tuck, Crossing Jordan and an episode of Grey's Anatomy.
This is a great move for Cruz, whose most recent film The Devil's Tomb (with costars Cuba Gooding Jr. and Taryn Manning) is going straight to DVD this May.
Where will she fit in among Sookie (Anna Paquin), Tara (Rutina Wesley) and the other vampiresses of Bon Temps? It's interesting that her character description includes that she's supposed to be "elegant" — I assume this means she won't be working as a waitress at Merlotte's.
How do you think Isabel will fit into True Blood?

Now and Ben: Has a Blast in the Past Changed Lost's Future?
added by newsBotLost</i>" style="margin:0 5px 5px" />Lost's Michael Emerson had warned TVGuide.com readers that moments would come along this season where you leap off the sofa and shout, "They can't do that! Can they...?" One such shocker expelled from Sayid's gun and landed in a young Benjamin Linus' chest at the end of last week's episode. Sterling Beaumon, 13, shared with us a look at how that blast in the past may change Ben's future. Or not.
TVGuide.com: I know you've done episodes of ER, Heroes and Bones. But was Lost your first death scene?
Sterling Beaumon: No, actually. I was on Crossing Jordan and I had to lie on a coroner's table for almost the whole episode. And on ER, I died in the end, with a tumor in my brain....
TVGuide.com: Of course, my question presumes that Young Ben died from Sayid's gunshot. Might that not be the case?
