The show, based on Alexander McCall-Smith's bestselling novels, aired a feature-length pilot last year to impressive ratings. Lark Rise - recently recommissioned for a third series - came second during the hour, beaten only by the second visit to ITV1's Dancing On Ice. EastEnders has been named soap of the year at the Television and Radio Industries Club (Tric) Awards. The Walford-based serial received the accolade at the industry-voted awards ceremony, which was held at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel yesterday.
