TV Review: ‘Past Life’ Fails to Reincarnate Anything Entertaining
added by newsBotChicago – Fox’s new supernatural drama “Past Life” is a laughable waste of time, a show that feels like an inferior version of a dozen other programs, coming off as a weak variation on “Medium,” “The Ghost Whisperer,” and countless other procedurals. A blend of manipulative melodrama, visions of the other side, and a weakly mystery, the show comes off like “CSI: The Lovely Bones” and, yes, it’s as awful as that sounds.
Television Rating: 1.0/5.0
The key problem with “Past Life” (and it’s only one of many) is that the similarly vision-driven “Medium” thrives largely because of the stellar work by Patricia Arquette and the focus on her family as much as her visions. In other words, you need strong characters to mix with the supernatural mumbo-jumbo and the leads on “Past Life” are impossible to care about and lacking in the charisma needed to make a show like this work. »

Women Rondo nominees that deserve it; 'Final Girl', Jovanka Vuckovic, 'Medium', 'American Scary', and more
added by newsBotThe weirdly male, 50's-ish monster-kid-oriented Rondo Awards are happening yet again, and while no one really knows who would nominate almost unheard-of blogs like Obscure Hollow (really? last review on Dec 20, 2009? Is it abandoned?) or newbies like Dollar Bin Horror (seriously? two-paragraph, badly-written reviews?) there are some women nominated who really deserve a look before you vote!
First off is our pick for best blog, Final Girl, run by staff contributor Stacie Ponder. Funny, mostly sarcastic, silly, and much more enjoyable than the films reviewed, Final Girl has our official endorsement. There are also surprising nominees for best article, best TV episode, and more that you need to check out before you vote because they show that women have taken a really effective part in this year's horror phenomenon...
For TV: Medium, 'Bite Me,' CBS, 10.30.09. Allison's nightmares throw her into scenes from 'Night of the Living Dead.' Elvira guest stars. »

Movie Preview & Trailer: The Crazies (2010), Starring Timothy Olyphant, Radha Mitchell, Joe Anderson, Danielle Panabaker
added by newsBotGeorge A. Romero is a horror legend thanks to his many zombie films, including the grandaddy of them all, Night of the Living Dead (1968). Several of his other features, however, have gone egregiously overlooked -- at least to the mainstream public -- including The Crazies (1973), Martin (1977), and Knightriders (1981). They're not perfect by any means, and they all suffer visibly from shoestring budgets, but there are bits of brilliance in each of the three. So it's no surprise that someone saw fit to remake/reimagine/reboot The Crazies (2010), and to do so with a sizable budget and a strong cast. The original followed a group of people in a Pennsylvania town who've somehow managed to stay sane once a virus infects pretty much everyone else, turning friends and loved ones into crazy killers. Upping the stakes, the military has descended on the town, determined to contain the spread of the virus, »
