Rita Repulsa Triumphant! Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers Cancelled.
added by newsBotThere is an end to everything, to good things as well, and at no time has that ever been more true than now, with the cancellation of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. I know what you're thinking, and yes, it is unimaginable that the dream has died. But 17 seasons and over 650 episodes is an excellent run, especially as it beats out its long-time rival ER in longevity. And while Film Junk tends to shy away from television news, I do think this is important as it means that the long-anticipated third theatrical Power Rangers film is unlikely. Or is it? I know that there are at least a few of you reading this who enjoyed the show. Japanese Spider-Man! Go!
added by newsBotLike a phoenix from the ashes... If you, like me, are saddened by the cancellation of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, Marvel's decision to host the '70s Japanese Spider-Man series [1] on their website will help ease the pain. This is one of my favourite tokusatsu, a bizarre reconfiguration of the Spider-Man mythos to accommodate aliens, giant robots, and Spider-Man's alter ego as a motorcycle racer. The major comic book companies have been criticized the past few years for failing to take full advantage of the internet. Taking esoterica like Japanese Spider-Man and unleashing it upon an unsuspecting public is certainly a great start, and is one of the few fun things to come out of The House of Ideas in years. I only wish more of the comics themselves were like this. [1] http://www.marvel.com/animation/Japanese_Spider-Man/start/236

'Hebrew Hammer' Director Takes on 'The Party' Remake
added by newsBotI wasn't entirely thrilled last August when news broke that a director of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers eps was heading back to Hollywood to spearhead a remake of The Party -- one where Hrundi V. Bakshi gets replaced by "a hapless blond Midwesterner [who] will have his appearance changed to resemble an Indian by a zealous studio eager he fit a part." But now the news has become a little more promising.
The Hollywood Reporter posts that Jonathan Kesselman, the director of the most excellent holiday comedy The Hebrew Hammer, has signed on to helm the feature. Since the film looks like it will have little in common with its original source material, and has now got the man who created Mordechai Jefferson Carver and Esther Bloomenbergensteinenthal, things are suddenly looking up -- at least up and out of remake hell.
But the challenge will become finding a blonde Midwesterner who
