The NCIS team must work on an assignment against a terrorist group without Gibbs, who is still recovering from the explosion. Gibbs has to fight with memory loss, while he's visited by his mentor and his former boss. His help is needed, especially when the team discovers that Gibbs is the only person who has information about the terrorists' plans, so he needs to retrieve his memory before the terrorists attack.

Soap Star Leann Hunley to Guest Star on 'NCIS'
added by newsBotWe reported previously that three-time Emmy winner Gena Rowlands was cast to bring hell to Gibbs (Mark Harmon) on NCIS as one of his mothers-in-law. Rowlands is set to play "upscale" Joanna, who will bring not-so-pleasant memories to Gibbs' very colorful love life sometime in March.
TV Guide reports that soap star Leann Hunley will piggyback on Rowlands' role, as the Days of our Lives star was cast to play young Joanna in flashback set in the 1980s. Both will reportedly appear on NCIS' March 2 episode that will also - get this - feature Harmon's own son Sean, playing a younger version of Gibbs.

More on Gena Rowlands' 'NCIS' Episode
added by newsBotThere's more details coming out about Gena Rowlands' upcoming guest turn on 'NCIS,' thanks to a report from TV Guide soap expert Michael Logan. When Rowlands appears on 'NCIS' March 2 as Gibbs' former mother-in-law, Joann, the show will flashback to a time when Joann and Jethro were much younger.
The younger Gibbs will be played by Sean Harmon, Mark's own son, and the younger version of Joann will be portrayed by 'Days of Our Lives'' Emmy-winner Leann Hunley.
Hunley (pictured), who plays Anna Dimera on 'Days of Our Lives,' told Logan that she was thrilled to play Joann in flashback, especially because of her admiration for Rowlands. "When I first saw her back in the '70s in 'A Woman Under the Influence,' I thought, 'That woman looks like me! She has my eyes!'" Hunley told Logan.

'NCIS' Big Boss: Finale Will Not Be Tiva-centric

And for good reason, since last year's season finale packed a mean punch, the repercussions of which we can still feel up to the present. This, of course, is just a testament to NCIS' formula-defying season finales.
In any case, NCIS Executive Producer Shane Brennan tells Entertainment Weekly that we can at least rule out one thing from the upcoming season finale: no Tiva-centricity.
